Ten years ago today.

My thoughts are certainly with the families tonight.

i didn't know that

i remember crying when it happened, the first time i was really touched by something awful that was seemingly distant to me. not much you can say really, just that these things shouldn't be forgotten. my thoughts are with them too

I remember watching it on Newsround

it seems a long time ago, but strangely close too.

I don't think I understood it then

I thought about this today. It kinda leaves you feeling really really cold and withdrawn. It's totally uncomprehendable.

I hope the families have come to terms with it all in their own ways. I'm not sure if 10 years is a short or long time for this sort of thing.

I will always

remember Ivor Lawrence QC, a conservative mp, going on the news and trying to make political capital from this and arguing against a handgun ban. He said that handguns were owned by ordinary, decent people and that criminals normally use sawn off shotguns. He said 'imagine if he'd gone in with a sawn off shotgun, god forbid.' He didn't go in with a sawn off shotgun, he went in with legally held handguns.

what a twat

people are allowed to keep shotguns if they have a license, as well. and it's 'toffs' who tend to have the licenses, or at least it used to be. it's not like they're sold ready-sawn...

i remember this

but i was only 8 (just!) at the time. Crazy. I'd had my birthday three days previously then children just like me were being shot.

I went

to school in Dunblane, I'd just left when this happened. I remember watching the news and seeing people I knew, like teachers from my school, running around trying to find out if their kids were okay. One of the most horrifying things that's happened in our lifetimes I think. So yeah, my thoughts are with them tonight.

Thoughts also with families

Very trivial point, but isn't boy wonder Scottish tennis player Andrew Murray from Dunblane?

yes, he is.^

I remember finding out about it in school. My dad is an educational psychologist for the Stirling area so he had to go to stuff today to do with it in case there were lots of media types about. He said it wasn't too bad. It must be so hard not just having to deal with it but having it examined and picked apart again at significant anniversaries.

Yes he is

and he was at the school that day. He is only a couple of years older than the kids who were shot. Raises the hairs on the back of my neck when I hear anything about it. My thoughts are with the families tonight.
