Right, im currently doing A- Level art and my exam question is movement. i have decided to do it on gymnasts (this is mainly through being lazy and just sitting on my arse watching the commonwealth games!). i was planning on taking long exposure photos of rhythmic gymnasts (the ones withs ribbons and bouncy balls) and also filming them and doing a kind of Editors video type thing. Another idea i had was to film someone doing a somersault from the front and side and then id be able to track the 3 dimensional movement of their hands and legs and head and then represent these paths using wire/plastic in a sculpture. Does anyone have any other suggestions? (im aware that there are a few art students on this site, so now is your chance to shine!)

movement

i'd probably build constructions with moving parts, swings, pendulums etc

keep it anstract, it keeps you free

you just

want an excuse to go and film ladies with a good figure.

good man

they can bend

in ways i never even knew was possible

bending

how the imagination starts to run riot:D

don't do long exposures

they're a huge cliche and the first thing anyone'd think of.

do something original :D

hadn't the futurists done

things like that ( painting of sportsmen with decomposition of moveemnt ) ?

furturists are boring though i want to express the fluid movement and the futurists are more about power. and as for the long exposure photos, i think it will look good as i'll do it properly (black background, spotlight etc) it is a cliche but its is difficult to think of many original ideas for this. any suggestions?

if i were you i'd just doodle

til you have an idea. then move it on until nothing's left of that idea or the question.

just don't do something cliched. you get more marks for trying to be different...

not on my exam board.

its shit, in my last project i did touch and photographed everything i touched for a 24hr period. i also did pieces of work where i painted my hand and then opened doors and did this for a week to see the build up of colour on certain areas of the door.
the exam board said that it was too conceptual and someone in my class who just draws birds in pencil crayon got nearly full marks...royally peeved!

I can imagine...

that idea was great :!

it could look good.

But you have to be careful it don't look too much like a 'sport cliche'.

i would

develop work from my pictures, possibly resulting in the sculpture i mentioned in the top post. however i could do with some more ideas for the development phase of my project.

kinetic sculpture

was a possibility. it has certain limitations though, still it may work

C'mon

Do you really expect us to believe this?

Surely, if you trawl around the internet you'll find a site that caters for your needs.

believe it??

i was just wondering thats all and i thought members like restlessboy would find this interesting.

My cousin was an olympic gymnast.

can he do

some flips and stuff for me?

She.

And no... She has put on an astounding amount of weight.

If i hadn't seen her silver medal i'd find it hard to believe

i'll take my photos

and film soon and then ill start the development on it and hopefull it will just come together (it tends to do that) but if anyone has any ideas then they will be very much appriciated.

I've lots of ideas

after reading this thread.
