Idlewild singer Roddy Woomble is to release a solo album in July. That doesn't mean the band are splitting, mind.
The as-yet-untitled record's said to be a folk-styled effort, a departure from the rockier territory generally occupied by his nine-to-five band. Woomble will tour the album upon its release. Idlewild, of course, have completed their contract with Parlophone/EMI and are currently unsigned.
Woomble wrote on the band's website:
“(We've) been talking to a bunch of different record labels, but we're in no rush to commit to anything as yet. Actually, it's been really enjoyable to write Idlewild songs and not to worry about what anyone thinks of them other than us. It's a bit like starting a band all over again.”
I was never sure of all that pressure, either...
I'm so underwhelmed by this news
that I can't even be bothered to
well
lets hope he'll folk himself out and the next idlewild record will be a return to past glories
Hear Hear!
seconded.
I agree
So that's, erm, thirded
He has
hinted previously that this will be the case.
Im never gonna lose any of my own letters
SHAPES!!!
S'gonna be duuuuuuuull...
this is good news
it'll be a great album. and idlewild will then be his 'heavy' side project, which will please you lot.
I think
you need more ''s on the word heavy there. iDLEWiLD were never all that heavy, just real good, and then they lost that.
100 Broken Windows
is the best CD ever. If they're returning to that then Roddy can write Atomic Kitten songs for all I care.
That's a
good thing
according to roddy
the new idlewild material is going to be 'minimal' whatever the fuck that means.
That doesn't sound...
...promising.
last i heard the band stuff was gonna bring the rock
whereas the solo stuff is his folky fogey vent...
It was so clear
that he would go solo someday...
Just hope it will be good...
thing is
I really do love Roddy's voice. So I could probably love a folk side project.
As for Idlewild themselves - if they go back to more rocky times that'd be good, but only if it sounded unforced. But I'd be happy just to hear the older songs that do get played, played like their supposed to be. The half arsed "you just have to be who you are" of the last few tours upsets me.
roddy's voice....
has obviously developed over the years, in that he can actually sing now, as opposed to the early stuff, so i for one will welcome a solo folk record. having seen idlewild do a live acoustic show a while ago which was jaw droppingly mint, i will eagerly anticipate this.....
urg
my worry is that itl sound forced
n wont be the snotty bratty idlewild but a ROCK idlewild which is just as bad as a folk idlewild
the tours from remote part onwards have been disapointing in their unwillingness to look backwards
captain and hope are great records so why do they choose to pretty much ignore them? - and still they play the godawful 'rusty' - the clear weak spot from 100bw
I can't believe
how fast I want from being a huge fan to not giving a squirt of piss.
Having only listened to Warnings/Promises once or twice I am worried that a new Idlewild album of "heavier" stuff would be 12 versions of that ghastly "i wanna warning" song.
His folk album will be alright but I really believe Idlewild should call it a day before they get any further away from what made 100 Broken Windows the best album ever.
same here..
I'm sure I would have given the remote part more of a hearing if I had bought it rather than hearing it through, erm, other ways. hen again, still had 'live in a hiding place' on my wedding cd..
my first dance
will be When I Argue I See Shapes.
The single version with piano on it; for the parents.
SHAPES!
sorry....
well
you just won't be invited if you're going to do that.
...
i loved this band so much
even including remote part
i think the acompanying tours were what dissapointed me
i lost all love for them by the time warnings/promises was released
however its a really great album
most notably 'el capitan'
its just not iDLEWiLD is it??
be fair...
...El Capitan and Love Steals Us From Loneliness were tunes even if the rest of that album was a horror show.
I thought it was an ace album...
I'm quite looking forward to this album. Plus its almost as if Idlewild are releasing a double album, which can only be good.
