Y'know, sometimes good bands play shows to not so many people. That, that makes us sad. Sometimes, fuggin' excellent bands play shows to not so many people. That, that makes us really sad. So, forgive us this plug of sorts for a pair of our favourite bands, who just happen to be hitting that road together very very shortly.
One band is Projections ('We Couldn't Speak' 7" available from Studio Penguin Records) - they rock and are from Brighton - and the other is Econoline (pictured) - they rock and are not from Brighton. One man, called Steve, might be playing in both for the course of the tour 'cause he's JUST THAT HARD. True story. He might also be the same Steve that plays drums so wonderfully in DiS-loved duo Blood Red Shoes. Yep, maybe.
Econoline - yeah, they're named after a truck - have a new record out now through Stupid Cat (aka the label of famed London indie club types Silver Rocket). It's called This Band Isn't Funny Anymore and we closed DiS Radio 9 with a cut from it. It's top. You should buy it from them at one of these shows...

ooh yeah
Projections are ace, probably would have missed this.
I shall be there.
Good work
i think
they're also playing ryan's bar in stoke newington on the 8th. last i heard, anyway.
oh yeah
and we still have plenty of projections 7"s - www.myspace.com/studiopenguinrecords
i meant the 9th.
gig on the 9th
The gig at ryan's bar has been supplanted by the one on the 1st. Sorry! Although it's still happening, favour's for sailors (formerly stable will) are still playing, with Pfaff, and A N Other.
fair enough
that was just the last i heard from steve, that's all. 1st = better day and better venue..
Aye
Steve's off on tour doing sound for the good shoes. and this was only sorted yesterday, he knows though! CHEERS ian
Old Blue Last April 1st
further to what has been said, Projections / Econoline no longer playing at Ryan's. Apologies for the confusion. Although some sort of gig still going on that night, tbc. Also, Favours For Sailors (ex Stable Will) are also definitely playing with Econoline and Projections at the Old Blue Last on Saturday April 1st. Possibly Bas from Pfaff too. Favours onstage first for 9/9.30ish. They're great and well worth checking out. Should be wicked and the night will go onto 2am with Silver Rocket DJs and stuff.
oh yeah
I should probably have told Andy the date had changed, well he'll read it on here eventually.
btw "famed" ha ha i like it, thanks Mike, shame it's not true. Actually no it isn't, i don't want to be famous.
Steve
also still does a lot of the sound engineering at the Freebutt.
Is he now the busiest man in rock?
I would say
that yes he is.
...
...he is literally everywhere. He is putting Bird Flu's mobility to shame.
I thought
Econoline Split up?? wasnt that like a last ever gig at silver rocket a while go? maybe i've gone mad
no and yes?
We did split up, but me and piers were too lazy to think of a new name when we wrote a bunch more songs, so we started playing again last year, we've done a load of shows as a duo and recorded a whole load of new stuff with Valentina playing drums, and steve ansell playing drums. Now we're touring for the album we recorded as a four piece 3 years ago which is only just coming out. We're touring it as a three piece because it's more ergonomical, we're going to be releasing a 7" in a couple of months time then touring some more and then releasing an album for which we're going to assemble a 6 or 7 piece band with horns/ keyboards/ extra stuff to play all the stuff we've been recording properly. So THere you are! there's some songs on
www.myspace.com/econoline
from the album that's three years old and some stuff we recorded last year with Steve A'.
"...6 or 7 piece band with horns.."
RFTC? I hope so.
a-ha
sorted
Good!
Glad to clarify, and Dan, not quite...
