Bit of an anomaly, Clearlake; what with residing on Domino and being a particularly and steadfastly English band. If one was being cruel, you’d say that another anomally for them as a Domino band is that they’re decidely uninteresting.

Despite their best efforts, ‘Come Into The Darkness’ chugs and gurns where it should artfully scrawl, sounding like a cheap promenade Pink Floyd married to Graham Coxon in detox. Other ‘A’ side, ‘The Mind Is Evil’ sounds like a festering, bad Libertines dream where all vaudevillian pretences run amok into a souped up sepia dirge. Avoid like the black plague – a disease last seen roughly around the same time as this type of music was in anyway popular.

Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is Evil

Which is a shame cos their first LP 'Lido' was so joyously good.

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is Evil

'Cedars' is equally good. You DiS writers have no clue do you?

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is

I love Clearlake. No idea what the point of putting out a single with 2 album tracks is. Who's it for? But to return to my original point, I love Clearlake.

So nuuuuuh.

Cheers,
Damian.

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is

Their singles do seem a bit pointless generally, or pointless to buy at least, do get the songs played.

And ah, but do you love Athlete too?

>And ah, but do you love Athlete too?

Oh yes. I mean honestly, the cynicism that sometimes greets pop music that makes a lot of people happy. I can see that Athlete won't be everyone's cup of tea, but to hate them like they personally dissed your Mum... isn't life too short? Aren't there too many things to go out and enjoy to worry about things that don't twist your melon?

This argument isn't a license to only give good reviews... just for people to lighten up somewhat and assess priorities in their lives. Anyone who hates, really HATES, needs to go outside for a bit. See the countryside. Go on a date (I'm taking an educated guess that people with THAT much bitterness are missing something...)

Rant over. What was the question again? Oh yes. I like Athlete.

Cheers,
Damian.

All too true.

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is

Yay!

Although seeing people getting so wound up about something and ranting about how shit it is just because they don't personally like it and it isn't dictated as cool is very amusing

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is Evil

Cedars is as good as Lido.

Lido was brilliant.

2+2 sometimes really does equal 4.

Re: Clearlake - Come Into The Darkness/The Mind Is Evil

I'm surprised that so many people like lido more than cedars. for me cedars is one the best new albums I have heard in years, instantly one of my favorites. as for lido, there are some really good tracks, some alright ones, no real filler but there is a lack of cohesiveness to it all, a lack of personality, and not much of the moody atmospheres that makes cedars so amazing for me. none the less, one of the best bands out there.
