We've teamed up with the greatest festival in the UK, Truck, which takes place on July 19th-20th near Oxford, to put together their programme and we thought what the hell, we might as well make it a whole mag that people can read on the train or on the loo and use as a guide at festivals and help soundtrack their summer. We did it for a couple of years as Probemusic, how hard can it be?
We've got interviews, reviews, previews, columns, rants, raves, tips, cheats and writing in all shapes and sizes, with some of the best bits on the site this year so far. The mag covers the likes of Radiohead, Cooper Temple Clause, Cat Power, Mew, Span, Dandy Warhols, The Warlocks, Mogwai, Fountains of Wayne, Sparklehorse, Seachange, Goldrush, Blood Brothers, InMe, Biffy Clyro, Marilyn Manson, British Sea Power, The Roots, Calla, Evan Dando, Electric Eel Shock, Four Tet, Prefuse 73, Postal Service, Electric Six, Colour of Fire, Hope of the States, Broken Family Band, Dive Dive, Keane, Winnebago Deal, Sparta, Mars Volta, Agent Blue, Jarcrew, Cat on Form, Sonic Youth... and LOADS more great bands, you know what we're like. Plus we've got interviews with the likes of Paul Bonham from Truck, Marcus who runs Fat Cat (Sigur Rós) Tremendous Mike from Must Destroy (The Darkness), the guys from Artrocker and Careless Talker Everett True, talking us through how they do what they do, so you can get out there and do it, be it putting on festivals, to having chart topping singles, to running magazines, clubs and living on the edge. Plus we'll have a guide to records to look forward to from August onwards, books to read this summer, festival previews, buzz and tidbits. PHEW!
We're doing a minimum print run of 20,000 newspapers and because it is paper, we're making it FREE from all the finest record shops, venues around the country plus ace, nice, random places, like webstores (tba) [full list of stockists available after the weekend - if you can stock it, or take it on the road with your band, please get in touch!]. But what's more, to make use of this internet thang, the mag will also be available all around the world in PDF format and by mail order too. It'll all be ready for consumption early July.
For advertising rates contact advertising@drownedinsound.com (prices range from as little as £40 upto £600 - or more if you're feeling generous!). Use us to tell the world about what you're doing.

DiS: Summer Guide / Truck Programme - about TRUCK
Since it’s humble beginnings Truck has steadily grown from year to year. The Hill Farm site now has a capacity of 3000 and the event has the reputation of being the UK’s only festival to showcase a vast array of music.
Unlike other festivals the food is cheap (and served up with a friendly smile from the local Rotary Club), the beer (cheap, also) is poured by the two high rolling loons and assorted mates (dressed of course as ladies). And naturally (this is the country) the real ale from the codgers bar is the finest around, or if it's ice cream you’re after, why not talk to the local vicar, who's flogging ices, in aid of his church light fund.
Most of Truck’s 3000 visitors are young music lovers, with a passion for both diverse, local, mainstream as well as anti mainstream music. They build up part of underground British music network, but also are the passionate drive behind new ideas; many are from Oxford’s student population. Truck is also a family event that has a large number of older more affluent members of the music-loving public.
Last year 13,000 pounds were raised for local charities. Amnesty International (Abingdon group) has been a regular recipient, holding a stall at the festival each year, whilst various other small, youth orientated charities have received donations. These have helped support projects such as Abingdon’s Bridge drop-in centre, East Oxford’s Wheel’s Project, Siren conservation education (Cowley), Sea-saw’s grief support for young people in Oxfordshire, and The Art Room art therapy for vulnerable children, (based at Oxford School). In addition, last year’s festival raised funds for the newly formed Truck Club Juniors which gives young bands from around Oxfordshire with no recording experience the chance to record in the Truck studio for free with the support of an experienced engineer. All of these promising young bands will be appearing at this year’s festival.
At Truck festival there is no cut throat capitalism, no huge entry fees, or inappropriate advertising boards. It's a nice weekend out in the countryside with a few bevies, a plethora of bands and a passion for music, all in support of local charities.
