Next Monday the Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon, London, sees the premiere of a new cabaret night, showcasing live music and comedy. The opening line-up features sketch comedy and character stand-up, plus acoustic sets from up-and-coming musicians.

The new night is entitled ‘Sketch etc’. According to its organiser, Ed Weeks: “‘Sketch etc’ will unite some great comic and musical talent. We’re going for a mellow, intimate vibe: it’s the chance to enjoy sketches from some hilarious writer-performers, and at the same time check out some very talented singers and musicians.”

The musicians on the bill include the singer-guitarist Ben Hudson, once a resident at both the Barfly in London and Ronnie Scott’s in Birmingham, and Coachella, a rootsy acoustic duo who have been attracting public and industry buzz at venues like London’s Kashmir club.

The troupe of comedians include experienced comedy club and festival regulars, plus writers for TV sitcoms and sketch shows such as ‘Smack The Pony’. The compere, Ben Willbond, has won the Perrier Best Newcomer award for comedy and was one half of the highly successful spoof French rap act ‘Priorite a Gauche’.

“It’s very exciting to be part of a new high-quality cabaret night for London” says Weeks, “People are going to come and see some real stars of the future.”

The first ‘Sketch etc’ takes place on Monday 7th July at 8pm, upstairs at the Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon Road EC1. Tickets are £4, or £3 concessions.

Upcoming stars of music and comedy unite

Great news for everyone outside London eh? Slow news day NME Jnr?

Re: Upcoming stars of music and comedy unite

You don't HAVE to read it.
Let alone spend your time commenting on it.
Considering most of our staff live outside of London, we're hardly the worlds most london-centric site, it's just that few of our folks who do do news (and all contributors can), are from London.

This 'Alex' obviously leads a pitiful existence. All he does is come on here to wind other folk up. I have found ignoring him to be the best solution, although it may make him bitterer than he is.

Cue some pish insult from the man himself any minute.........

ronnie scotts

that was a wonderful venue. Im not a great jazz fan but i saw the Crocketts play there, and it was a really great night, if you live in Birmingham or near, you'l now know its gone and its a damn strip club. Wheres the justice in that.

Ben Hudson at Sketch etc

I saw Ben Hudson play at Ronnie Scott's a few years ago with his band, the Hudson Sound. F**king brilliant: what a powerful voice that lad has. Wondered what happened to him
