Arthur Lee is apparently suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A post to said effect appeared on Love and Lee fan site LoveWithArthurLee.com.
According to reports elsewhere, Lee has already undergone three weeks of treatment, and it's looking likely that he'll face a bone marrow transplant operation in the coming weeks.
Friends of the singer are arranging a benefit concert, to be held in Los Angeles, as Lee is uninsured. His medical bills are said to run to over $100,000. Venues including the Avalon and El Rey Theatre are under consideration, with Calexico among the acts approached to appear.
"We are looking for artists to perform a few of Arthur's songs that capture the spirit and magic of Arthur Lee and Love," said organiser Liz Garo.
He
has also allegledly turned a bit loopy.
well more than before...
so
would you if you'd just been diagnosed with cancer. give the man a break ffs
This is going back a year or so...
FFS :)
fair enough
i'm not pretending to know the guy at all, it just sounded like you were linking the two in terms of timescale...
which i have a problem with as said subject matter is pretty close to home.
have heard he's pretty self-obsessed, but i still stand by the 'give him break' comment. no-one should have to go through that.
This makes me very sad
Arthur Lee is already enough of a tragic figure :-(
Sad yes...
You know, it's a terrible thing when anyone has cancer...at the same time, I simply can never think of Arthur Lee without thinking of the interview that Jack White did with him. It was published in the NME in the last year or two. All I can say is, if you like Arthur Lee, you must ONLY like him for his music. The guy is looked upon as some kind of deity by his fans (yes, Love is great), and the truth is that he has about the hugest, most repugnant ego problem of anyone in music. This is someone who seems to think all music and musicians are vastly inferior to him in every way and who only begrudgingly admits that Jimi Hendrix could play guitar well. Never mind that he is thought to have had a hand in the death of Love's manager...
Oh yeah, and just so I don't have to say this later, I don't want the guy to die. I just think some people need a reality check concerning this guy.
i read that one too
he is very egotistical.
if i'd been jack white i'd have left early. it was awful.
i think arthur lee has a point
when it comes to being vastly superior to a lot of other musicians. how could you NOT have a big ego when youve made one of the greatest albums ever made?
ing
I believe it was published in 2002
im pretty upset
really wanted to see him live at some point, and it seemed like he was touring a lot recently. didnt see this coming at all.
