Where do you plug your gigs?

What messageboards/mailing lists, fanzines and listings guides, radio and press do people use to plug their bands' gigs? Which are the best?

Obviously I'm not interested in spamming millions of disinterested souls, but grabbing the attention of those who might actually be interested in seeing a new band: Smart marketing, not mass marketing, take note you cheeky young scamps of McKinney...

I'd say that this place is an ace site to begin with. Its read by loads of people, and the site owner sean - a little, whiny middle-class boy from Kingston-Upon-Thames gets easily wound up. Marriage made in heaven.
      • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

        Sean's from Kingston-upon-Thames?
        Leeds, you knob.
        • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

          is Sean from Leeds?
          • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

I was born in the back waters of Barcelona, apparently.
          • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

I suspect it might be Leeds because I saw a wart covered donkey down elland road way smoking a fag and walking like it has just received a right good seeing to...........discuss
            • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

              That was Jody Morris!
  • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

So what happened to The Shakes, Mr Mack? I saw you on a listing in the Borderline when I saw Paddy Casey.
    • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

The Shakes split up amid much ugliness last autumn...The Shakes you saw advertised at the borderline is a different band, I think they're described as a 'funky pop' band...My new band General Khaki play Dublin Castle on Saturday April 10th...do I know you?

Hey McKinney played Dublin Castle, to much acclaim.

Have you read this exclusive story yet?:

In a move that Hitler or Stalin would be proud of, DiS' website editors have continued their campaign to silence McKinney's devoted internet fans by deleting their posts. This sort of propaganda twisting was thought to be dying out as fast as cats around Sean Adam's flat. However, with this latest round of deleting it's clear it's a tactic DiS CAN and WILL employ.

Said one passionate McKinneyling: "I'm bloody angry - it's the equivalent of someone going around with an eraser and rubbing out all of L.S Lowry's work. It's scandalous, and only makes us more determined to spread the good name of McKinney."

In related news, L.S Lowry's grandchildren "strongly believe, without a shadow of a doubt" that their grandfather would have been a massive fan of the band, and would buy all of their records was he not dead. Subsequently, the charts have decided to count this when 'Surreal' is released, as part of their anti-discrimination-against-dead-people campaign. To balance this out, records bought by disabled people will no longer be counted.

"They'll just have to wait to die if they want to make their voice heard" said a charts spokesman, possibly that Genarro bloke at HMV thats always on Radio1 and in NME.

Helen Legless, 25, Leeds, a wheelchair used said: "This isnt fair", at which point Genaro pulled her out of her wheelchair, and ran away, laughing to himself. Sick.

Stay tuned for more McKinney news, McKinneylings!

          You. Are. A. Dick.
      • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

Uhm, I was (and am) dating the music editor at the time.. The Shakes were possibly the only "real" band to come out of IC.

Its fucking hard to motivate the fucking J&R people to stop doing derivative blues shite and do something new.. :S
        • Re: Where do you plug your gigs?

Hi there, I think we met a couple of times. Briefly. Maybe.

"The Shakes were possibly the only "real" band to come out of IC." - Except for QUEEN of course!

          I'm most flattered

If you liked the Shakes, and believe it or not, there were those who resisted the rock'n'roll flame, you should check out General Khaki; taking up where the Shakes left off, harder, faster poppier and more twisty than the Shakes. Minor Threat do Beefheart is how I rather pompously describe it.
