Is ummm what I´m listening to right now I guess, Morrissey´s beautifully written, delightfully barbed and darkly bitter "You Are The Quarry". He´s right - the world IS full of crashing bores. I bloody love Morrissey for ripping into the policemen, policemen, silly little taxmen and pop-stars pop-stars thicker than pig shit. He says it so well. He´s really not just full of bile though, you know? There´s more to it than that. It´s like this almost noble balance between a scathing eye cast over everything, and this boredom and despair, but also an eye for beauty and good things and pleasure.
And as for Sean's criticisms, I disagree. He's just making albums and having a go at everyone, like he always did. If carrying on your own career is cashing in... then um what isn't?
I have just had the pleasure of taking in the Arctic Monkeys album. I think one of my favourite part of listening was realising that the lyrics aren't the most poignant, funny and acurate barometer of modern British life - they just sound like it next to the Kaiser Chiefs.
I thoroughly enjoyed the complete lack of groove coming from any part of the band.
I also enjoyed having every song not only sounding similar (which is excusable) but following the exact same template (which is not).
But I think the best part was the bit at the end which made me think of a band who are a lot like every print journalist in the country has persuaded themselves the Monkeys are: Million Dead.
The lyrics of Million Dead songs are funny, poignant and intelligent - unlike Arctic Monkeys, and their musical style combines a lo-fi production with a degree of technical competence - unlike the Arctic Monkeys.
However, Million Dead have broken up and their last record was ages ago, so my actual record of the moment would be the two Battles EPs that came out a little while back.
ghostface never sells records because his lyrics are a bit too odd for the general public.
he had a really sickly R&B song 2 albums ago that was horrible musically and had Jagged Edge or someone on it purely because the label wanted money, but then he went and said "bitch, i had you sniffin' my boxers" and radio didn't play it.
he totally looks nothing like i expected him to as well, it's weird.
he's like 7 feet tall and looks hard as fuck. he looks like the guy from green mile and not like a rapper at all.
want that Rumah Sakit album, I have that sorta split live album he did with the WONDERFUL Sweep The Leg Johnny, I miss them...they had the best song titles i.e. 'Sometimes My Balls Feel Like Tits'
Welcome To The Monkeyhouse. It got relegated to the bottom of my collection cos I wasn't overly impressed with it. But I stuck it on in a moment of compressed madness, and it's like the Killers only not shit.
so I bought The Dresden Dolls, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Mono. All are rather splendid though I seem to end up skipping to the faster tracks on The Dresden Dolls album quite a bit, Necessary Evil=WOOOOO!
my HOTTEST record of the MOMENT

...
Words aren't much cop, either.
What is Morrissey good at again?
being old?
and cashing in on past succeses?
playing up to his own cult?
Musically it's quite meh, I agree
but as a whole package, I'm hooked.
And as for Sean's criticisms, I disagree. He's just making albums and having a go at everyone, like he always did. If carrying on your own career is cashing in... then um what isn't?

he's like 7 feet tall and looks hard as fuck. he looks like the guy from green mile and not like a rapper at all.
yes he does!
http://www.hoopshype.com/ghostface.jpg
look at the size of his chain!
he is hard as fuck though, he's built up this web of intrigue around himself over possible CRIMES by saying vague things in interviews and on record.
ie. "5 rappers got stuck that night, yo thanks for the ice"
HMM.
no one else gets away with quoting themself either.
and he once cried on record and didn't look ghey.
he looks like a black dj scotch egg.
THEY SHOULD COLLABORATE.
that would be awesome.
i always expect rappers to look like nelly or ludacris or something.
