From mail out:
Good day good friends.
PBaS have parted ways with their record label Captains of Industry.
We are offically Not Commercially Viable.
This is not the end.
Our second album is still coming, sooner than anticipated as we no
longer have to wait for the wheels of bureaucracy to turn. More details
will follow in the coming days.
Today begins a new era, we hope you’ll give us one last chance.
Yours as ever,
PBaS
xx
gotta love pbas. seems odd that captains of industry released that free single not only the other week and now this. oh well, good luck to the boys.
!
That is poo, although to be honest, they only had a one album deal to begin with.
The new album will rule.
it seems a bit strange.
I should download the single when it's still possible then...
yup
should be good.
i thought captains
were supposed to be the good guys?
i've heard some
less than glowing comments on them in recent months..
I'd be interested to read these report myself
could you point me at them?
that means they can't drop people who aren't selling enough?
i downloaded
that peace burial single, even though I knew nothing about the band, and found I really liked it. This is a shame, hope they get a new deal soon.
!
They didn't have anything out, how can they sell nothing?
?
"This is such a quiet town" was on Captains.
!
It was out before that but they did some distrobution on it.
So yes and no.
wut?
it came on some other label first (mekong delta?) but then captains picked it up for a rerelease in 2004, surely?
mmmm
the copy i have has the Captains logo slapped the back and it's cat number is capt007
alcxxk
to be fair to captins, PBaS first album sold less than 100 copies retail. The second album was too much of a risk for them. They ARE the good guys, but need to put food on the table like everyone else. They lost a not inconsiderable amount on the first album.
Lee from Captains was pretty upset at having to let them go. Check the PBaS site for further comments.
i didnt mean too much by it
its just that captains make a massive deal about how different they are to majors, and its not just that theyve dropped a band for commercial reasons, and the fact that, based on the quote at the start of the thread, the band seems quite bitter towards them.
"PBaS have parted ways with their record label Captains of Industry.
We are offically Not Commercially Viable."
in these situations, people are normally very quick to stress that the parting is amicable or mutual or something, and the use of the semi-jargon "Not Commercially Viable", with the capitals like that suggests that the label is somewhat corporately minded.
i wouldn't suggest that they should keep plowing money into PBaS. i don't think theyre very original or have any particular appeal. more that its pretty dangerous marketing yourself so hard as a revolutionary alternative, and theyre clearly feeling some pain from that. so genuine commisserations to all involved.
i agree with you totally alcxxk
i didn't meant to be so defensive. I grew up with the guys that run Captain, so i guess i'm a little closer to this than some.
I guess they thought that this album was just a little too much of a risk.
Besides, i think most of the animosity has been cleared up now (comments on the PBaS website).
less than 100 copies...
Which should mean that not even every DiSer that likes them had bought the album...
PBaS
are fucking mint. I don't think this will set them back much.
Yes
Captains of Industry are, like, SO different to the evil evil majors. Which is why Captains head honcho Ben Myers has secured The Sound Explosion a record deal with Sony: double standards anyone??
I blame Martin.
ho is martin?
Ben knows
...
is he reading the thread!?!?
