Wildhearts: Top of the World?

With another controversial album under their belt, British rockers The Wildhearts announce single and touring plans.

New album The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed met with a typically mixed response from fans, but the band will be promoting the record with a new single release, Top of the World, on October 27. Exclusive b-sides will be spread across 3 CD formats in an attempt to build on the chart sucess of the previous three singles.

Meanwhile, Ginger is currently in the middle of a solo acoustic tour in which he is performing a mixture of favourites and rarities from a range of his projects, while the full band will be opening for Motorhead throughout October. Dates and ordering information for both tours can be found here.

Yet again, it seems highly unlikely that the band will be joined by bassist Danny McCormack, who was replaced on their last tour by Cardiacs and SG5 member, Jon Poole. However, tickets are currently onsale for a Yo Yo's gig at the London Garage on October 22. Whether or not this is the same band that McCormack featured in after The Wildhearts went on hold back in 1997 remains to be announced, but with rumours circulating that he is to reform the band with ex-Wildheart Jef Streatfield on guitar, that gig could be well worth checking out.

Wildhearts: Top of the World?

I can't believe how their new album has become 'controversial', but you're right to say that it has. It's pop music, but pop music done brilliantly - what's not to like? I'm confused.

As for the 3CD release, I can't think of another band that could do that without me getting annoyed, but the Wildhearts spend as much time on their B-sides as their A-sides. They will rock.

There was no real point to my post here. I just love the band so damned much. You wouldn't know it, would you?

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Danny's a sleazy loser who'd rather snort or inject anything than pick up a bass so I'm told. Nonetheless, doesanyone really care for The Wildhearts anymore? At best they were an intriguing diversion, these days they've just struggling nobodies...

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Right on brother.

Let's hope they dissapear again real soon.

It scares me that all people want from music is simplistic stuff like they do. Go buy some Don Caballero!

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Simplistic? The Wildhearts? And The Strokes are... complex? Goddamn. Listen to the records. If the comments above merely read 'Personally, I don't like them' I would have let that one go. I'm all for respecting opinions, but if you're going to make a statement rather than voice an opinion, make it accurate. I mean, I can't stand The Thrills but I'd never call them 'gloomy'.

OK. I'll try a different reference point then. Listen to the new Muse album. Now listen to 'Is This It' or the new Strokes single. Embarrassing isn't it? My point wasn't even so much about The Wildhearts (because I know I'm biased) but about the heavy publicity afforded to stuff that just seems so dull to me, at the expense of so many acts that try to do something different (at least Muse slipped through the radar I suppose). But there you go...

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

yeah, but the rhythmic structures of strokes songs are kinda complex aren't they? i mean 'are they??' - i'm not asking this rhetorically, i just don't know anymore. perhaps we need to bring in expert opinion. wait a minute....why am i talking about the strokes...oh ne'er mind. i'll fuck off.

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

p.s i'm not trying to implicitly critising the wildhearts or muse here. though come to think of it, the thrills are as appaling on this point as they are on originality, lyrics, attitude and all else. all their songs plod along, even when they're up-tempo and have a swing-beat. plod, plod, plod. i don't know how they manage that. they are terrible. which is agian, utterly beside the point of this thread...

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Eh? Wha??

Who mentioned the strokes dude?

I don't get this.

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

That was to Damian by the way.

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Erm, I mentioned them. I had made a point (under the Strokes news article) saying that I had seen two new articles on the site - that one and The Wildhearts one, and it started me thinking about how one band that just seem so desperately average to me get so much coverage, whereas another band that, if they mean something to anyone REALLY mean something to them, can't get radio play, a festival slot, any column inches in the NME etc.

I then continued that rant under this thread... I guess you could say that I could have made myself a lot clearer. Fair point!

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Ah I see!

Cool mate.

I understand now.

Rock on.

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Grow up you ignorant twat.

Re: Wildhearts: Top of the World?

Damian...DAMIAN...Tichborne?(I know I screwed the spelling all to hell if this is you, mate! Even if it's not, my sincerest apoligies) I recognize the first name as one of the 'listees'-don't know for sure if it's you but either way I'm glad to hear you stickin' up fer the lads! As for some of the posts I read here, well...let's just say,"For those of you who don't like the Wildie's and have 'alternative' musical tastes and especially those vocal peeps, perhaps you'll be interested to hear that the 'Captain and Teneille' will be reforming. Later on in the show I may even have to use the nettie.....photo's available upon request.
