Muchos Perros
Hi bullhead,
We'd love to play RoTa. Hear us at http://www.myspace.com/muchosperros. We've just got demo of the month in PlayMusic magazine.
The review said;
“Many dogs. A five-piece probably original-sounding, unleashed in SE London. Surly Spanish lead singer singing very melodic gibberish. Drummer into techno who claims he understands the lyrics.
A sense of humour then. And not uninteresting to boot. The lyrics are indeed unintelligible, but it’s not at all clear whether that is because Miguel here – his name wasn’t given (I made that bit up) is singing in Spanish (he sometimes lapses into lucid English), or some crazy Cocteau-style in-language, which is fine by me. His voice, comprehensibility aside, is high and pure and unusual yet understated, a bit Delays-like if anything, while the backing provides the most fascinating bit. It’s part indie-math-rock and part almost World Music-esque. And I’m using the term ‘World Music’, to the inevitable chagrin of its champions, to mean that oddly optimistic African beat and bell-like guitar that makes it often unbearable to cynical first world ears. Not that Muchos Perros play ‘World Music’ by any means – it’s difficult to explain, but I’ll try. Imagine Morrissey fronting American lo-fi masters Tristeza, playing with the Mahotella Queens. Sometimes they get heavy and turn the distortion on. It’s weird yes, but not as weird as it sounds. It kind of works. So yes, original-sounding is probably about right.
Cheers,
Jon
