DiS Reloaded: Or Happy Birthday To Us

Bday Badge DiS is THREE!

The partying began lastnight with the Robocop Kraus + Hookers Green #1 + Reagan at our monthly Club Fandango. And then before we had chance to spot our hangovers, Matt our webmaster had put the new site live. We hope you find it easier to use and easier on the eye.

If you've got anything you'd like to say about the site, or about DiS in general, over the past three years, then please leave your birthday wishes and feedback below, where the comments boards will now reside.

Thanks for your support.

  • testing, testing

what do you think of messageboards being down here?
    • Re: testing, testing

im enjoying newfound accessibility! but what happened to the nice review pages with their neat little generic headings? scrolling makes my eyes hurt.
      • Re: testing, testing

weird, everyone else seemed to hate the old section pages. each to their own I guess.
    • Re: testing, testing

the messageboards being here is a good thing.

as for the other changes, im not sure yet. the having half the article quoted on the contents page is a bit weird. change is indeed uncomfortable. time will tell.

ooohh... and you can spy on who else is on line... cool.
      • Re: testing, testing

one more thing about the message boards:
the tom sykes bright eyes article is now hours of fun!

oh yeah.. and..err.. happy birthday and all that.
  • hmm

its uncomfortable, but that will only be because change is.
    like new shoes
    • Re: hmm

Yeah. Hopefully people will prefer it to the old layout once they get used to it. I mean the colour scheme and stuff is the same but I think it's a lot smarter now and less amateurish looking. Hopefully the writing will follow suit ;-)

Other usability improvements may follow depending on feedback and whether or not I can be bothered/have time... any suggestions for the user area in particular as I'd like to get people using that more. What new features would be cool for it?

mad props to Martin for the new header graphics by the way.
  • eh

designed by geniuses, run by hypocrites
    • Re: eh

      how so?
      • Re: eh

It's a good site, but too much internal politics, and favouritism frankly. You get on well if you can't write but like opening post, but not vice versa.
  • new stuff

OK so... I'm thinking of forcing people to sign in to their user account when posting on the boards... or maybe have anonymous postings come up as some kind of 'anonymous idiot' user as per slashdot etc. What do people reckon? Basically I just wanna up the count in the 'users online' box... heh.

I'm hoping the 'users online' bit and the easy login form will encourage people to message eachother more on the site (it'll tell you in the header if you have a new message now).

Also planned - you should be able to add photos to your user profile shortly. So you can all have a competition with makeoutclub.com to see who can come up with the most stereotypical emo hipster poses
    • Re: new stuff

      love that makeoutclub

i think the bit at the top's a bit too space filling (or maybe its cos im using netscape?)
illl probably get used to the navigation in a while though, but maybe the live info is too in depth. maybe you could use less space and condense each gig down to bands, city, day of the week, with more information if you click?
      • Re: new stuff

Yeah various people have pointed this out. I know the interface for browsing gig listings is a bit poo, I'll probably redo them at some point in the future, maybe expand to allow club listings too and arbitrary numbers of artists per gig (currently limited to five). Have to wait till I have a bit more time though
  • have you deliberately buried the demos

    to look more "grown up"?
    • Re: have you deliberately buried the demos

      Eh? They're not 'buried' anywhere.
    • Re: have you deliberately buried the demos

They do now infact get their own page, rather than just being a footnote.

The thing is, not a lot of people wanna read about bands they've never heard of, but those that do, no where to go. And it means we can flag up any exceptional demoes much easier.
    • Re: have you deliberately buried the demos

Nothing delibarate on my part... you can still get to them quite easily via the 'reviews' page, and they're one of the things that the bottom 'other sections' box on the front page draws from.

Only so much space, I guess.
  • Congratulations

    Happy 3rd birthday!
I've crept back to see how the old site is doing without me. Better than ever, it seems.

    • there's always something!!

except the bastard HTML doesn't work on here anymore.
      • Re: there's always something!!

I'm still not sure why you left - did try to email you to find out why, i musta missed something.
  • the new look

oh it looks so much cleaner & less cluttered & i guess a little bit of scrollin never killd nobody i guess that's one of the issues when you've got so much info to put in etc anyhow thumbs up & stuff
