The following message was sent to their fanclub this afternoon.
"Suede would like to announce that from next year they will be working on their own individual projects.
There will not be a new studio album until the band feel that the moment is artistically right to make one.
This announcement does not affect the forthcoming touring commitments. Suede would like to thank the fans for their wonderful support over the years.
See you in the next life."
DiScuss: What was your all time favourite Suede song, gig or memory? Will the demise of The Bluetones be the official brit pop death knell? Anyone heard any more rumours about Menswe@r reforming?

Thanks God
..
oh the joy that would bring

"Oh fuck right off you wanker."
"They're just about the uncoolest band around at the moment though so all the up-themselves trendies slag them off.
"suede arent a band, they are a religion, which why some of us feel something just died."
"NME'sters, you missed something. back to the strokes then eh, you dullards."
"Suede aren't Bowie wannabies, they're way better than Bowie."
we need some more high profile band splits. oh please let placebo be next...
well, it would seem
not again..
The End
I'll miss them for what they were.
Suede - The Living Dead
Still, whatever anyone thinks of what they are now, they were the driving force behind Britpop and have a massive fanbase and will be sorely missed.

Re: The End
Mind you, Menswear are still with us. It's just that these days they operate under the name "The Libertines".
Re: The End
But they are now no more.
Please god, let the Cosmic Rough Riders be next...

Crappy DF
Ah Britpop was crappy but in a way it's so good. My History teacher went to see Elastica when she was at Uni...
Re: Crappy DF
Elastica were amazing they had more punk in one pinky than 600 Julian Casablancas that commercial whore!
What is next will the Brits make
this sucks, but......
Good day for the future
just a shame that they couldn't go out on a high note.
On the plus side, maybe there'll be a Anderson/Butler reformation ala Page and Plant in a few years.
Hmm...
and hopefulyl Bernard will leave his guitars at home and we'll be treated to a stylophone version of The Wild Ones, Brett's ash'tinted vocal chords straining and failing to reach those high notes. Two and a half great albums, one album that sucked the very depths of the gutter and one that left you indifferent. Sci-Fi Lullabies will be the album to remember them by and I'm happy to bet that, like my copy, the second CD has barely been played due to its uncomprising awfulness.

Re: Britpop
I was in that huge Weatherspoons pub in Charing X when The Vines were playing at the Astoria. Some bloke had come in and given four random guys a bunch of tickets, for free, such was the demand. They had new clue who they were, naturally.
Rather than dissolve amongst an acetic ocean of fanciful memories and bitterness towards the current crop'o'crap, it's our duty to search out the great new wave. I guess it's just that we're all at a bit of a loss, cos there's no meaning in Gap rock like The Strokes or retro-indulgances like The Darkness. Guess there's no other way, though...
