I think its because they remind me of you lot so much.
When I think of 'Its so cold in this house', I also tend to think 'No matter how much people dress it up, that song is terrible'.

isn't that Maximo Park?
and Bloc Party are rubbish anyway, that's why you're starting to hate them.
Nah.
Maximo Park are nice to hear.
Silent Alarm hasn't been in my record player for about a year.
what I meant was
isn't that lyric Maximo Park. Then I realised it wasn't, I was thinking of "this house gets so cold in the winter". Bloc Party bore me to sleep. I quite like MP though.
I'll admit
So Here We Are is excellent, as is Little Thoughts. But I don't think I'll listen to the album ever again.
Also, I've noticed DiS seems to think the Long Blondes' singer is incredibly fit. No offence to her, because she's a really nice person, but they couldn't be wronger.
maximo park are dull
bloc party want to be radiohead. and aren't. they both have half decent songs.
bloc party want to be radiohead?
wut?
i think
not in the sound or anything. just an attitude, that they want to be more than the rest of the current crop of bands.
maybe it's just me, but i get the impression that they want to be the "new-radiohead"...
how very nme that sounds...
What gets me
is that they claim not to be influenced by Gang of Four, pull the other one lads.
They've got some nice songs, nothing mind blowing, but nothing to hate either. It's quite possible that they'll release a great second album, it's also possible that they'll fade into obscurity after releasing a dull re-write, time will tell...
From the sound
of the new songs they played a couple of months back, the new album should definately a step in new directions for them, and certainly won't be 'Silent Alarm II'. I think the Radiohead comparison is a good one, they don't seem like a band that want to release the same album over and over.
they just strike
me as being more interested in being interesting than in selling records. which is a good thing.
but as yet they aren't nearly interesting enough.
Someone already said it but...
It's because they're crap.
isn't
a big compliment to say they're like radiohead, but not in sound (ie, not rip offs) but in attitude, as it shows they want more than to just hit the NME audience and then thrive off the standard radio1 public and just continute, and continue and continue...
i think with steps like their fan-club only tour, they're distancing themselves from the bigger audience which, in terms of the new album, can only be a good thing.
I like them
I put the album on the other day for the first time in a while and thought it has some ace tracks on it. There's a couple of duffers but overall I think it's good. Hopefully they'll be even better by the second album.
yeah same
here, i really like them, and they're actually quite popular if you think about it.
I like them too
Got nothing bad to say against them. Great live, excellent drummer and great songs.
I love Bloc Party.
Everyone to whom I have introduced them, love Bloc Party, and I've introduced them to a lot of people. I can't understand them being called boring at all either.
Their denial of the Gang Of Four thing
is interesting. This is a pretty weak coincidence, but they have a song called Price Of Gas, and if you look inside the GoF Solid Gold & Another Day Another Dollar album, there's a picture with the caption 'I hope they keep down the price of gas' underneath
So yeah, weak coincidence, but semi-interesting nonetheless
Isn't 'nonetheless' a great word to type?
yes but not as good
as zxcvbnm!!!
bloc party want to be radiohead
they don't want to be radiohead. they have alot in common with radiohead. there forward thinking and ambitious and have a simaler purpose but whats with the backlash?
i love bloc party, they're a very talented band who have the rare ability to bring important music to the public conciousness.
they are definitely
a step above most of the nme class of 2005.
hopefully they'll write a really progressive and ambitious second album.
ps. thanks for reminding me about how ace silent alarm is wrighty :P
bloc party are great
They are one of the best band that really hit it big last year. And good for them. They made a great debut, and I expect the next album to be just as good.
There was something about them
but they never really affected me in any way. Always enjoy hearing their songs but I wouldn't bother buying the album or owt.
Good to see
More posts in the 2nd half of this thread defending them. They are really good.
bloc party are good
but having just seen them, i again wasn't happy with their performance. but i haven't ever really liked them live since they don't do all the little studio tricks that are on the album. their new stuff sounded ok. hopefully i'll like it better on the album.
& why does no one like two more years? i absolutely LOVE that song. lyrically, not the most sophisticated, but musically.... yum. & comparing maximo park to bloc party is just not applicable.
