All-girl Chinese punk band Hang On The Box have had to pull out of their UK tour, due to being refused visas to travel. The Chinese authorities have deemed them "an inappropriate representation of Chinese culture" and taken issue with their song titles. (Their album is called 'For Every Punk Bitch & Arsehole'.)

The New World Disorder tour, as it's called, continues with three bands on a rotating bill: the very excellent Ludes, the very excellent My Red Cell, and the very excellent Future Kings Of Spain. In addition to these three very excellent bands, a most excellent local support band will now open each gig.

The dates for November are thus:

17th Birmingham Academy 3
18th London New Cross Paradise Bar 'Pop Of The Tops'
19th London Islington Academy 2
20th Stratford upon Avon Cox's Yard
21st Manchester University Academy 3
22nd Sheffield Fez Club
23rd Leeds Metropolitan University
24th Cardiff Barfly
25th Liverpool Barfly
26th Glasgow Barfly
27th Aberdeen Lava
28th Sunderland Bar 36
29th Middlesborough Empire
30th Nottingham Rescue Rooms
Dec 1st York Fibbers

So that's 15 dates, without a day off. Phew.

if you read their forum, they say that it isn't due to Visa denial. Don't know what the deal is though. They seem pretty adamant about the denial.

indeed, the lead singer has denied the truth of the report both on the band's guestbook and on the website of the record label in china that released their 2 albums.

she was recently nominated as 'best female rock vocalist' by the chinese institute of light music - a government music association; the awards ceremony will take place on 12/14. taking into consideration that fact and that their two albums have been released on an alternative record label backed by one of the largest record companies in china seem rather contradictory to this report.

Can't tell you the truth, as i don't know, but The Koreans have been added to the Islington Academy bill on Wednesday. Rock. And DiS will be giving away tickets this week.

I can confirm 100% The Koreans will be playing Islington Academy this Wednesday as part of this tour. Word.

Metro Riots were asked to play both London dates but then it was changed at the last minute so they played the Tuesday night & The Koreans played the Wednesday night. Metro Riots were told on the Tuesday night & I think their site was updated then.

another odd thing is that the news also states that they were denied visas. now, wouldn't that be something under the authority of the british embassy in beijing?

First Support

Planetman opened the tour in Bham - and er.....FKOS rocked. Didn't think too much of Ludes or My Red Cell.

So there.

as to hang on the box, my understanding is that the truth is that cherry or nme...one of the sponsering parties decided against supporting hang on the box because they would not sign a contract... where is responsible journalism?
