Dear Blood Red Shoes,
when we first made acquaintances half way through last year, your girl-boy grungey punk impressed me. The noise made by two individuals with two instruments was fantastic and as a fan of previous 'incarnation' Cat on Form, I was pleased with what was before me. In all honesty though, I felt that something was missing. I knew that, inside the pair of you, there were massive unabashed pop songs waiting to steal my heart and leave me breathless on the dancefloor.
I'm writing to inform you that last night, at popular indie club 'White Heat' at London's salubrious Madame JoJo's venue, you evoked something in me that few bands are able to muster.
Whilst many may see the simple guitar and drums combination as a limited way of making music, you seem to be able to take it to another level. Energetically powering through the superb new single 'A.D.H.D', sending me off into dancing raptures, all syncopated rhythms and insanely catchy hooks. You make me want to quit my job and follow you around the country, losing my inhibitions every night and just 'letting go'.
There's something here that you display though, that I can't quite place my finger on. Be it the on-stage chemistry that the pair of you display, the way that with every new song you seem get better and better, or something else entirely. I just don't know what it is; but it's fucking great.
What I do know however, is that leaving the venue, up and down escalators on the Tube and now 13 hours later, I'm still singing the choruses and smiling at the melodies. Yours is a talent to be savoured, by yourselves and embraced, by the masses.
I'll see you again soon. Any opportunity in fact.
Thank you,
Colin x
