Bookmakers William Hill have made Ozzy Osbourne's duet with daughter Kelly, 'Changes', fourth-favourite for the Christmas number one, following the singer's recent quad bike incident.

'Changes', a cover of the Black Sabbath original, is now 16/1 for the festive top spot, a significant shift from the odds of 50/1 quoted before Ozzy's accident. A spokesman said: "The pair have been backed down to fourth favourites and if they have as much support with people buying the record it is a real contender."

Doctors have said that it may take up to two months for Ozzy to recover from the injuries sustained, which included eight broken ribs.

The Pop Idol finalists' version of 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' is still favourite amongst bookmakers to top the chart come December 25th.

apparently it's no. 1 in the midweek.

it won't stay there though.

Re: Ozzy Gets Sympathy Vote In Race For Xmas Numbe

People are always talking about the midweeks chart, are they like officially released? where?
I really hope this isnt number 1, i'm sick of the Osbournes cashing in. even The Darkness would be better. or that David Joules guy?

Re: Ozzy Gets Sympathy Vote In Race For Xmas Numbe

Depends who you work for. Most labels have access to a service that allows them to see how much a record has sold, in any part of the country at any time. Thus if an artist is doing badly midweek they know to beef up the promotion.

Gary Jules.

And yes, if a song ever deserved to be Christmas No.1, it is he.

But we'd settle for the Darkness.

Re: Ozzy Gets Sympathy Vote In Race For Xmas Number 1

i work in a record shop, and ozzy is definatly the single we've sold most of. it'll probably be no one, but i doubt it will be for xmas.

the Darkness are shite: why doesn't dis realise that?

Re: Ozzy Gets Sympathy Vote In Race For Xmas Numbe

This is coming from someone who's given The Levellers 5/5 on their user account. Hmm. Curioser and Curiouser.

Re: Ozzy Gets Sympathy Vote In Race For Xmas Numbe

Music taste: contemporary classical (Gavin Bryars, Mark Anthony Turnage, George Benjamin, Andrew Keeling, Jonathan Harvey, Ligeti etc.), minimalism (Reich to Part etc.), he he he he..

Let Ozzy be Xmas Number 1. Having his face peering up from the screen during the afternoon festivities will make you realise just how well the Queen has aged later on during her speech. it'll also make you appreciate her clipped diction even more.

The mid week chart standings are bollox. Everything changes come the weekend when all the childeren go to Virgin with their disposable income and blow the midweek numbers out of the water. Every contender for the No 1 spot sucks ass, including the Darkness. I can see why they are cashing in now though, because the second album will get panned. If they get more progressive, people will slag them for loosing their 'Fun' edge and simplistic songs that 'Anybody' can enjoy. If they stick to the same formulae, every critic out there will be waiting to cut them down and label them one trick ponies.
Save your pennies ladies, because the end is nigh!

Award to Sharon for getting this to no. 1.
That was the most brilliant PR stunt ever. And she kept in the papers every single day it wa on sale.
Good work.

Further Osbourne gossip...

Many years ago, in the days of Big Breakfast, a reality TV star wife called a friend of hers at ch4 and got her family on the "family of the week" section of BB. It was all made to look like the kids had written in without their parents knowledge, after this appearence the wife got a bee in her bonnet and started pestering any tv execs to do a follow up of the family.

There was no interest until much later when she struck up a *cough* friendship with a mr bigwig at MTV, she put this idea to him and agreed to do a one off, only problem was that her husband wasn't up for it. As time went on she was spending more and more money on the new house he finally relented, although he didn't know it was to be a series and not a one off. When he found out he went ape and made things as difficult as possible, when the crew would turn up he'd go to bed or dissapear or just be so abusive they couldn't use the clips.

Eventually the wife's *friend* told her unless the husband co-operated, they would have to scrap the whole thing.

She had one last trick up her sleeve...
...the only way to keep hubby in the bosom of his family was to UP his prescribed medication of which she had sole control.
