My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Posted: 31 Dec '03, 13:25
My Vitriol have a new album due in 2004...
Once upon a time My Vitriol were playing new band nights alongside Muse and Coldplay, got signed, did lots of big support slots, were all over Mtv and had a vibrant fanbase. Then they went away to work on their second album (whilst fobbing us off with a remixed version of the album in 2002). And now they're on the way back having finished writing the follow up to 2001's 'Finelines', and are currently recording the album which is due for release in 2004. It is being produced by Colin Richardson (Fear Factory, Napalm Death, InMe, Cyclefly, One Minute Silence...) and My Vit' singer Som Wardner.
The album is said to have the jokey working title '17 Songs in the key of D Minor'.
Reports suggest the tracks sound "awesome and beautiful". There will be a preview of the album, available next year on the My Vitriol website. We can now confirm that My Vitriol are signed to East West (who bought Infectious) for the world, except America.
Also check out our audio pages for their cover of 'Bottle Up and Explode' as a tribute to Elliott Smith here.
DiScuss: Do you know if the band are still signed? Have you heard any of the tracks? Heard any other My Vit' goss?

My Vitriol: Return in '04
they're on east west -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
Apparently it's heavier but still has the MV vibe. Kind of nervous about the whole Napalm Death producing fella..... nah it'll be great i'm sure, it's MV. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
they were dropped by infectious early '03, then split for a six month break. then front man Som came back and reformed the band with a whole new lot of material he had written. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
didnt their label in the us make them tour america for ages as well because of their 'american friendly sound' ? -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
Probably, wouldn't have surprised me - MV could have been (and still could be) pretty big in the USA. Looking forward to the album, although I too hope that MV don't get influenced too much by the Napalm Death-producing...err..producer :-) And I hope they come to Aberdeen, but they won't, cuz they are actually good.....we get stuck with Span and Whitmore.....woo hoo.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
they're good but they been away so long they gonna have to start again almost at the bottom
people forgotten bout em la
WHO THESE PUNKS?
-
-
My Vitriol: Return in '04
Hmmm true, but remember they have quite a core fanbase who will undoubtedly show MV the same love/respect that they did in 2001. The interesting thing will be whether or not their new stuff even competes with the music on their "Finelines" record, as it was absolutely sublime.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
core fanbase shows love/respect?
*pisses himself laughing*
oh dear god, i can't wait til they come back. i'm not sure why really. maybe they'll bring the msg board back, having been down for a week/10 months for 'updating' having been filled with abuse/porn/bannings :dgrin:
ah, the good olde days?
did someone mention Norwich?-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
Norwich is so last year -
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
duuuuuude.
its tomA
weird.
still havent got the forum back up? why was it down in the first place?
oh yeah. new album?
ABOUT BGGRING TIIIIIIIIME -
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
I forget. What happened in Norwich again?
-
-
-
My Vitriol: Return in '04
They moved to EASTWEST/WARNER BROS along with ASH GARBAGE and MUSE. Unfortunately INFECTIOUS/MUSHROOM dropped SEAFOOD and WILT when the label was bought over.
The new material is really impressive. Nothing like Napalm Death(!) but the production is harder in sound. In my opinion it has everything that Finelines has and much more. They shouldn't have any troubles revitalising the fanbase from what I have heard so far. It's gonna be worth the wait.
Peter -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
where can you hear the new stuf then? -
My Vitriol: Return in '04
unfortunatley Wilt were dropped?
lol omg they were sooo piss poor i cried with laughter when there stuff was on radio and telly-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
My Vitriol are another shining example of music industry racism. The only reason that no-one bought their records and they got dropped was because people don't like seeing Indian/West Indian/Whatevernationalityheisian doing well. I will be complaining to the correct authorities that this matter is dealt with.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
Maybe that is true but the racism works both ways.
Whenever I go to gigs I find the crowd to be mainly white people, however at a My Vitriol gig I notice quite a large amount of Asian people in the crowd. The same be said for Asian Dub Foundation, you will get more asians at an ADF gig than say a Korn gig.
Like it or not Racism DOES exist and the fact that Asian People like My Vitriol purely on the fact that 50% of the band are asian makes them racist.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
BNP Boy? oh that doesnt make you racist then....
-
-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
Facts:
1) There is no evidence that the music industry itself is any more racist than any other industry. In fact it is probably more diverse than most others.
2) MV have around 200,000 fans worldwide of all races.
3) Audiences at MV gigs in the UK are not noticably different in racial distribution to similar sounding bands.
4) MV were more successful than 90% of the new UK rock bands of 2000 and 2001, some of whom were also multi-racial. Queen Adreena, Sona Fariq, Terris, Crashland, Cay, Twist, King Adora, Biffy Clyro, and even some of the heavily touted US acts such as At The Drive-In and Andrew WK did not do as well as MV. I could list them all but it would be very boring. They had 5 hit singles 3 Top 40's 2 appearances on TOTP.
5) Race has never been a big issue with the band.
Please get yr facts straight before stirring things up on here. And please do not hide behind anonymity, I get suspicious.

Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
What a complete load of old toss.
It had more to do with Som's arrogance, inability to get on with his bandmates or take advice and the shoegazingly dull nature of their anti-charismatic stage non-presence than any racism. Also, a certain Muse release Origin Of Symmetry around the same time as Finelines didn't help.
Nittin Sawney won Muse Of The Year last year - voted for by the industry.
The Libertines have a black drummer.
Stereophonics - one of the biggest selling bands around - are Welsh.
White Stripes and The Strokes are American.
Lack of bands with Asian origin members has nothing to do with racism, it's simply a culture thing.
Is the Dublin Castle racist cos there's more white people than non-whites every night of the week?
Is DiS racist cos Raz is the only main writer here of Asian origin?
Is DiS homophobic cos Raz is the only gay writer here?
Get yer head out your fuckin arse, man.-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
See Also: Mars Volta, Rage Against the Machine, Ludes, Bloc Party, Ben Harper, Outkast, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Roni Size...
Colour, Race, Gender, Sexuality... what does it matter?
By the very fact you've pointed this out and noticed it and ranted about it and want to complain about it, surely there's a divide created by you, rather than the music industry?
And by that token, I realise my ability to list above puts me in the same catergory but you bought this up.-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
Britney Spears is black
You can get white shoe polish y'know -
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
In the US there a few multi racial bands like:
Deftones, System of a Down and Rage Against the
Machine who sold well. Limp Bizkit still out sold them by a very long way. Maybe it's cos they have a white singer. Its not like they are a better band! No Doubt, Sum41, Soundgarden, Linkin Park have white singers and out sold them too.. no ones seems to notice what color the drummer or bassist is.
My Vitriol have been the most successful multiracial rock band from Britain recently. Sona Fariq were great too but didn't do very well. Whatever happened to Echobelly?
-
-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
Maybe racism WAS a reason why they didn't succeed but what's the problem?
The Libertines aren't big in India, so what? Is it cos all the Indians don't like seeing white Westerners do well?
Racism exists, get over it!-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
apparently they're going down a storm in Yemen though -
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
The Libertines aren't big in India cos they haven't heard of them there. And cos thier shite.
Japan and India buy a lot of white artists records from what I have read so it doesnt sound like they are racist.
BNP supporters wouldn't buy Vitriol records. But they are pretty thick afterall..
see you at the nest show.-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
Who mentioned anything about Japan?
And if you seriously believe Japanese or Indian people aren't racist then are thicker than any BNP supporter (Incidently I'm not, it's just a name).

Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
They were great live. If you thought they were shoegazers you just didn't get it. I was around in 1990, okay!? Vitriol have more much energy and passion than those.
I saw em support quite a few bands, but wasn't a fan then. Then I saw them do one of thier own shows which was amazing.
Racism? They had chart hits and played on TOTP. So they did alright with a non-white singer.
But if the guy from the Strokes was chinese? Or the guy from the Coldplay wasn't white? would they have sold millions of records?
-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
....and if the singer from My Vitriol was white would you still have had the same amount of asian people at their gigs?
No, you wouldn't. So don't moan about white people being racist when asians are equally as guilty.-
Re: My Vitriol / Racism in Music
the thing is i never noticed an increase in asian crowd members at mv gigs compared to any other gig
and i looked
maybe you just noticed more

"It had more to do with Som's arrogance, inability to get on with his bandmates or take advice"
Do you know the band? I doubt it.
"Stereophonics - one of the biggest selling bands around - are Welsh. "
Where else in the world to do they sell records?
"Get yer head out your fuckin arse, man."

My Vitriol: Return in '04

Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04

Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04

-
My Vitriol: Return in '04
they always kind of bored me live to be honest.
norwich is so the future raz, farmers from up Oulton Broad have been honing their dialect for centuries, and its only now ready to be released onto an unsuspecting world, for total domination, and the ressurection of The Singing Postman......-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04

Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04

My Vitriol: Return in '04
I thought they were pretty good when i saw them live, but this may well be because it was one of my first gigs. Album rules though, hope they can keep it up.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
why is it assumed that at your first gig you are deluded or something? my first was Hundred Reasons. it was the best thing that ever happened to me... :D
i'm sure MV were very good. i wish i could see them live...
Finelines rules. what version have you got? Between The Lines or Finelines? i'm well confused cause they're both the same thing.. just with a different name - ?-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
I have both! And yeah, it was amazing, but y'know, you always look back on your first gigs with rose tinted specs, or so I have heart.
THAT SAID my first gig was Sum 41. Oh my god. Wilt sucked, Reel Big Fish were fun but sucked and Sum 41 sucked. But I still had an amazing time. These days the whole novelty of gigs is no more, I want to see quality bands and quality music with quality stage presence. This is kinda what I mean. Although of my early gigs, MV were the best!-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
ah... ~the pop-punk days~ i went through that too. hm. fun music that sucks is cool... but only at gigs. having been given a free ticket, i went to see The Darkness recently - the sound was piss but i had a great time!
im glad to hear that MV as an -early- gig, was a good one =)
-

My Vitriol: Return in '04
TomA - I recognise your name from the old MV forum if i'm correct in thinking? You and your little clique were always so 'random' and oh-so 'craaaaaazy' in private banter and ripping the piss out of MV but still littered and clung to the board.... Indeed, such GOOD old days! Anyhow, i infact listened to Finelines the other day and it definitely brought back all the goodness, looking forward to the new stuff with hopefully some shows.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
Just because you weren't involved..... whoever you are.... *shrugs*
I like the first album, i just doubt very much whether their new material will be able to meet it in any respect....-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04
she just bitter

My Vitriol: Return in '04
so what if they are the Asian Hanson?-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04

My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)

My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Thank god they are nearly back! The lack of news and the nothingness at the official site had me worried.
One of the only bands i would bother paying to see anymore...or bother to get genuinely excited about.
anyone know where to get bottleup mp3? link down
(TomA - why do you think they shut down the message board?....any ideas? they probably think all their fans are 15!)

My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Check out the My Vitriol website messageboard.
Looks like lyrics to a new song. Or maybe the band got drunk and decided to get 'Logical'
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world’s asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical,
Liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won’t you sign up your name, we’d like to feel you’re
Acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!
At night, when all the world’s asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man.
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
all the crap rhyming points toward a My Vitriol song
wonderful news -
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Or it could just be someone's posted the lyrics to Supertramp's "The Logical Song".
God knows why.-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
you're right
but why do you know that?-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Well, I probably shouldn't say this, and it might sound strange coming from a massive MV fan, but I do like that song.

My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
my vitriol have the award for hottest gig i have ever been to. portsmouth wedgewood rooms in early 2001. the air conditioning had broken and the place was rammed. it was difficult to see the band towards the end due to all of the half evaporated sweat lingering in the air and it was dripping from the ceiling.
it was bloody freezing outside afterwards too, which made it worse...
wilt, although not great, were better than halo, who both supported them that night. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Is that the cover version then that was nominated by a fan? I remember they had a competition for fans to suggest artwork and a cover version for next single...about two years ago!
I was wanting T'Pau China in your hand... or that really good early Shania twain one...y'know her early less commercial stuff? -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
I wanted them to cover 'Angel Eyes' by Roxy Music. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
i thought they'd just packed it in!! i'm so happy that they're actually going to come back, it's great!! on the whole racism thing, i don't really see that, i personally think that racism is something that barely exist in the music business.
i think finelines is one of the best albums i own, it's just pure beauty. i love the guitar sound, great use of effects, and generally amazing songs.
really can't wait for them to release the new album. i think i voted for pictures of you by the cure as the cover version.
[::charlie::] -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Any news on a potential release date for the new album??
I think it is quite naive to think their is no racism in the music industry but I do agree that racism is universal and is not just reserved to white people.
-
Re: My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
no ideas at all on the album
they said spring
it's almost spring
i think it technically IS spring now actually
not spring
i'd say autumn
or maybe summer if we're dead lucky
or next spring
is this deja vu?

My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Why don't they update their website?
It's had the same news for about a year or two now. -

Still no news?? I definitely need some new MV to listen to. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
It's been 2 years since any activity. I just saw their album stacked up on the shelf in my room (yes, no room for them in the rack anymore) and thought i'd come on and find out if anything's happening. Nope. I was a massive fan and now I don't even count them in my list of musical fancies.
They're probably working at Tesco's Express to bring in the pennies. -
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
Som by any chance if u browse the net one night and see this! put down the blody cocaine and release the new album man!!1 -
