The bird watching, branch brandishing collective British Sea Power have announced yet another UK tour.

The dates are:

APRIL

Saturday 17 Edinburgh The Venue
Monday 19 Newcastle University
Tuesday 20 Liverpool University
Wednesday 21 Sheffield Club Zero
Thursday 22 Manchester Academy
Friday 23 Birmingham Barfly
Sunday 25 Leicester University
Monday 26 Norwich The Waterfront
Tuesday 27 Bristol The Fleece
Thursday 29 London Shepherd’s Bush Empire

2003 was an eventful year for the Brighton five piece, who drew critical acclaim for their debut album 'The Decline Of...'. The band toured with The Flaming Lips, Interpol and The Strokes and became the first band ever to play the Sicily Isles. They also terrorized Jools Holland on the BBC program 'Later...', and introduced a dancing bear to their increasingly chaotic live shows.

Less successfully, in October bassist Hamilton fell out of a copper tree while collecting branches for a show in High Wycombe. Rumors that British Sea Power have now employed a branch roadie or foliage technician remain unconfirmed.

I've seen them and yes, there was 5 of them. but the album credits only four.
i'm not being a twat, I just know nothing about them..

anyone want to tell me why :)?

As far as I'm aware, they played The Scilly Isles (or Isles of Scilly as a friend there seems to prefer them to be known for some reason) rather than Sicily, and they weren't the first band to either since The Levellers did mere years ago

Re: All Aboard! British Sea Power Announce New Dates

i meant the scilly isles not the italian mafia run island of course... and i didn't know about the levellers neither. so, yeah, thanks for making me look like a twat :)

The extra one you saw on stage was the Reserve Cadet, he's the one at the keys and intermittently pacing the stage/audience with a great big fecking drum. He wasn't on the album and wasn't a core member, although I believe he may have now joined full-time. Could be wrong though. I presume you mean him and not the bear. Or the owl.

Re: All Aboard! British Sea Power Announce New Dates

For the record, the bear is called Ursula, which I believe was named after the star system of the same name. although having said that I can't spell Scilly Isles so how the fuck should i know? :)

All Aboard! British Sea Power Announce New Dates

nope I mean him. I liked him, I was stood right in front of him.
thank youu

the reserve cadet is also in a band called the brakes, a kind of brighton supergroup, with some of electric soft parade and possibly other brighton bands in it. i think he was originally only a live member but again think he may be full time now. he may also be called eamon...

Does anyone know where the Birmingham Barfly is in Birmingham, i've heard of it only recently, and know all the other main haunts where bands play.

Re: All Aboard! British Sea Power Announce New Dates

It is in Digbeth, near the Custard Factory... does that help?

Re: All Aboard! British Sea Power Announce New Dates

Thats a big help thanks, if its near there then its not too much of a walk. They havent renamed the Medicine bar in the custard factory the barfly have they? I'll have to go and check out that.

The fifth member is called Eamon and joined full-time after the album came out.

Birmingham gig

Apparently the Brum gig is now taking place in the Academy 2 as the Barfly hasn't been finished yet.
BSP played the same venue 28 November last year.
