King of the indie Indies, Fierce Panda, has announced details of its ten-year
celebration compilation. The Ronseal-esque titled Decade: Ten Years of Fierce Panda is released on 1st March and contains twenty tracks spanning 120 months of Panda releases. The CD focuses, unsurprisingly, on the prime movers and shakers to have turned up, had a cup of tea at the Panda pad and moved on to pastures greener. And Easyworld.
The full track listing (in correct and chronological order) is as follows:
· Ash - Punkboy
· Supergrass -Caught By The Fuzz
· The Bluetones -No. 11
· Placebo -Bruise Pristine
· Kenickie - Come Out 2nite
· 3 Colours Red -This Is My Hollywood
· Embrace -All You Good Good People
· Lo-Fidelity Allstars - Diamonds Are Forever
· Idlewild- Chandelier
· Seafood- Porchlight

The majority of these tracks are exclusive to the label, with the rest being original releases, and mainly different from the subsequently re-recorded efforts that followed in the bands careers.
Look out for an anniversarial feature on Fierce Panda on DiS in the coming weeks.

i was hoping they would release a hidden jems album as well, with tracks/bands that are great, but never got the recognition they deserve.
still, ill be buying it.
in regards to easyworld, they really are one of the worst bands i have ever seen when i saw them in early jan, thats coming from someone who used to think they were quite good as well...-
Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation

Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
I think they split up temporarily in order for one of them to study in america for a year or something, but they're back together now. Yay! Woo!
Check out http://listen.to/caretaker - I think they've got a gig or two coming up.
I had the immense pleasure of DJing a night they were playing at in my college last year and it was fucking awesome.
Them and Oceansize...must have been some gig!-
Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation

Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
So do you think easyworld have got worse, or have your tastes changed? One of the thing that puts me off the band is the pretentiousness of their fans. You go to a gig and everybody's so worried about how they look to everybody else that they forget to do things like talk to each other and have fun. I can't think of a band whose fans are less accessible, and that definitely detracts from my enjoyment, especially when the band seems so smug about the whole thing. Plus they've started writing dreary ballads rather than the nice punchy pop rock they used to do. -

Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
sounds good, i feel guilty about not buying bochum at the time, six by seven fucking rule...
but easyworld are really a little bit shite arent they! even the bluetones seem visionary when in their company.
Ooooooh, and kenickie are on too! where did i put my handbag??-
Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
Whoa that polko person got back before me again, and posted drunk on the message board (okay, im just assuming that)
what did you think of dogs die tonight then? personally i thought they were a bit dull. dead 60s were great though...
kenickie?
never as good as punka and i would fix you.
is this compliation different versions?... ooohh.. i might have to buy it...-
Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
you assume correct! at least i got the spelling sorted..
i actually went to see jarcrew at king tuts, which was pretty darn good! dogs die are alright from what ive heard, cant decide if theyre on the right side of cheese or not, seems like dexys midnight runners are very 'in' this year.
the mind boggles!

Re: Fierce Panda to release star-studded decade compilation
Yes, very much so. it's all following hot hot heat isnt it? loads of bands like dexys only better. apart from dogs die, who are worse.
i went to oceansize tonight. and again i thought the support band were pretty good, but the headliners boring. maybe i just have too high expectations.
never mind. next two bands im seeing are elkin and death cab and i KNOW i like both of them

No Ultrasound: shocking. -

...or Lapsus Linguae, Coin Op, Super Furry Animals (ok, it was a one-off), blah blah blah. They've been one of the most consistent labels on the planet for as long as I can remember, so a big round of applause for Simon and everyone else concerned is deserved, methinks.
Oh, and sorry to go on about them, but they even put out a Mexican Pets track on the 'Listen With Smother' 7". Oh yes.
Cheerio,
