Indie dies... then rises from the dead straight afterwards.

Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler have reportedly been recorded a track together, so says an unnamed source close to London radio station Xfm. Indeed, it's true Anderson and Butler were spotted together recently in London.

In addition to this, Anderson has recorded three tracks with Richard Hawley in his Sheffield studio. "It sounds a bit like Johnny Cash," says the 'source'. The material is for a possible solo album.

Anderson has been wanting to "get back to basics" after the breakup of Suede late last year.

More info on the Xfm website.

Butler has produced The Veils' debut album, out soon on Rough Trade, and is currently working on The Libertines sophomore effort. The Libs have sold out two nights at the 4,000 capacity Brixton Academy, and have just added a third date. Good lord!

Excellent! Let's hope for Dog Man Star Part 2: the Butler Produced Edition with Ed Buller nowhere near the fucking record.

Re: Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

I read there was a seventeen minute version of 'The Asphalt World' kicking about somewhere.
I'd love to hear that.

Good luck to them, anyway.
They always made a lovely couple =]

If you want to hear the seventeen minute of Asphalt World raid Bernies home demo tape drawer...

Re: Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

Brett needs his head testing. Butler might be creative, but his negitive attitude and purile behaviour distroyed Suede. Suede were sounding great in the last few months. Brett looked happy and that's more than he ever did when BB was around
Come Brett, you can do this on your own!!!

"sophomore effort"

English mutherfucker - do you speak it?

Ax

Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

What the fuck does sophomore mean - apart from "I am a twat"?

Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

Sophomore means second. As in second album, sophomore album. It was an English word far before America adopted it. Or you could become literary critics.

Re: Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

You obviously missed the thesis I wrote on American Psycho examing sexuality.

Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

I'd be more interested in any thesis proving that Bret Easton Ellis isn't a one-trick pony when it comes to his writing. The Rules of Attraction is a great anti-sex, anti-bisexual, anti-university, anti-virutally anything book because it makes drugs, music and fucking sound so unbelievably boring. American Psycho is a wonderfully funny book but he doesn't seem to have any vision beyond that style of writing.

Re: Brett Anderson & Bernard Butler Recording Together Again...

It's a fair crack but it could easily be levelled at many great authors or bands. Suede maybe?

If you want something truly 'subversive' you can knock off in a day, I heartily recommnend Martin Amis' 'Time's Arrow'.

"Sophomore" has always annoyed me as well. i thought it was only used for people who were in their second year at "school". Maybe it was pitchfork that changed that. or maybe the american media always used it.

now its just one of those stupid music review words im indifferent to; like "eponymous".

the only word i hate in music reviews is "subversive". cos its always used either to justify supposedly credible bands making crap records, or make good pop bands sound like something more than they are.

Ah, it's just my disappointment with Easton Ellis Mr F. American Psycho is a fantastic read but there's no development of his writing in later exploits. My favourite author is Hunter S Thompson and you can see the progression he made from Hells Angels onwards. Nice to hear Martin Amis getting a mention...

Brett Anderson was in talks the other week...

...at the Groucho Club with producers of Bowie/Bush/Blur/Crackout (http://www.worldsend.com/langerwinstanley.html) to work on his solo album.
