I was in Koko for about 30 minutes.

Then decided I couldn't be bothered and went home to watch The OC :o/

how was the sound?

I'm so worried Low in Koko isn't going to be good.

it's been better

but I realised that up on the balcony the sound is much better.

I was worried about Low too but not so much now.

I still think Koko is a complete hole though.

fuck me

what a gig!

Both Black Heart Procession and SMZ were truly outstanding.

God Bless Our Dead Marines was magical.

they played 2 newies

one was called "Black Black Black" or "Blind Blind Blind" which was pretty feckin impressive. Lots of cuddly harmonies from the whole band.

The rest of the orchestral drone I cannot remember the names of.

Sorry.

I am crap.

the other was called

'one million died to make this sound' - their vocal harmonies were amazing!

I have mixed feelings about the gig. God Bless Our Dead Marines was truly fantastic, the next song (I didn't know it but I dont think it was new) was really good as was the first new one (punks in the palace). But then I wasnt too keen on the other old one I didnt know (American somethingorother) and the million died to make this sound one, although, better than a lot of other stuff, didnt sound very new if you know what I mean, the whole repeat a line in harmony and then get Efrim to sing over it before it gets load thing has been done by then before but it was still a nice song and if they had ended there I would have been happy. But then they played ring out the bells... which is my least favourite song on Horses In The Sky and just went on for far too long. Overall a good gig but perhaps not as good as I had expected.

They also played an encore after half of the room left the venue, although I had to leave after a few minutes of them coming back on so that I wouldnt miss my last train.

Really?

What did they play? Actually I'm glad I didnt stay because I needed to get home anyway.

BHP

Their infamous saw featured alot in their set and they played alot of stuff off The Spell (which is the only album I know of their)

They were excellent. The singers voice stands up so well live.

Set List:

God Bless Our Dead Marines
Takes these hands and throw them in the river
Blind Blind Blind (new one)
American Motor Over a Smoldered Feild
A Million Died To Make This Sound (new one)
Ring Them Bells (Freedom has come and gone)

Encore: There's a River in the Valley Made of Melting Snow

It was amazing, great 'banter' and not too much talking. The new songs are very good, especially Blind Blind Blind.

there was

loads of talking in the back

I cant believe they did an encore. I'm sure I heard a song come on the PA to signal the end : (

I've already said this in other threads

but I can't beleive they're still making people sit through the abomination of a song that is "Blind Blind Blind"

Why

do you dislike it so much? Was that the one about punks in the palace? Because if so I thought it was alright.

It's a really mellow one

where in the chorus he whines "Bliiiiinnd Blliiiind Bliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind". I have trouble beleiving it's the same band that wrote god bless our dead marines. Blind is just so dull, and whiny, and... Am I the only one to hate it?

it appears so

I thought it was brilliant

im so annoyed i missed this show

what's the band setup like for these guys live?

i like

how they face each other when they play

hmm

Didn't enjoy the gig as much as I enjoyed them in Nottingham on Saturday. Obviously, the 'wow' factor of seeing a band for the first time in a long time wasn't there, but there were other reasons too.

The sound in Koko was nowhere near as good as it was in Nottingham: Efrim's voice was waaay to high in the mix whilst everyone else's was waaay too low. And all the instruments blurred into a big, middly mass in the crescendos.

The 10pm curfew in Nottingham meant a shorter set though, and less of Efrim's banter- which was excellent last night.

The set last night was (I think)...

God Bless Our Dead Marines
Take These Hands and Throw Them In The River
Blind Blind Blind
American Motor Over Smouldered Field
One Million Died To Make This Sound
Ring Them Bells (Freedom Has Come and Gone)
------------------------------------
There's A Valley In The River Made of Melting Snow

which is pretty different to Nottingham, where they played nothing pre-Horses...

God Bless Our Dead Marines
Mountains Made of Steam
Blind Blind Blind
Teddy Roosevelt's Guns
Ring Them Bells (Freedom Has Come and Gone)
--------------------------
One Million Died to Make This Sound

I enjoyed BHP last night when they weren't sounding like The Magic Numbers.
The saw was overused imho and you couldn't hear the actual sound of the bowing action- which is what gives the musical saw that organic quality which makes it so special.

YES!

the whole facing eachother works a treat.

I love it

beautiful chord change.

Whiny? Christ. Why do you like their other stuff, then?

at times I could hear

shards of Godspeed in their noise yesterday.

Oh, what I would do to see them play again.

Their show at Ocean in 2002 seems such a long time ago.

Possibly, the best gig I have ever witnessed.

that was on my 17th birthday

and I didn't go because I didn't want to go on my own.

God do I hate myself for that now.

you missed out man!

My best mate had her friend cancel on her and had no-one to go with so she nagged and nagged and ended up phsically dragging me to the gig with her.

(GYBE were unknown to me then)

I had been suffering from a really nasty hangover all day and all I wanted to do was go to bed.

That gig changed my view on music.

are they playing with that carla

person tonite? as someone mentioned yesterday
