anyone heard this lot? They sound a bit like Gish-era Pumpkins, with a bit of Mew, and Modest Mouse thrown in. As good as that sounds, they actually live up to it too. Their song 'Kissing Families' is on their MySpace. Listen!

i like
does take me back to the bands i loved in the 90s, that's not always a bad thing!
That's who I thought the
thread was about.
The band that did Golden Skin, Lava and Julia.
Did they ever make that revival they prommised?
(thread hijack)
SIlversun are playing the Luminaire in Kilburn on Friday July 7th. There is no football on that night. That is all.
yeah
they did another album recently... although I don't think anyone bought it!
I'm hijacking the thread back. What did you all think (assuming you took 3 minutes out yer lives to click my link!)
It's not that bad actually
Although that first track (the one that plays automatically) is obviously the stand out. A tiny little bit like Autolux? Or is that just my warped mind thinking that?
I don't know
I've not heard much Autolux... let's say it's your warped mind for the time being, until I check them out?
That's probably fair
but
I hadn't listened to that one that plays first (Lazy Eye) until you mentioned it, it is totally the standout, by miles. Do Autoloux sound like that then? I need to check them out if they do
I'll let you decide
I have been wrong about this sort of thing before: go forth, and then let me know (and I did say a 'tiny' bit) :)

I LIKE AUTOLUX
Autolux Are Vastly Superior
The Silversun Pickups are pretty good, but Autolux are like the Silversun Pickups if God wrote the songs. Okay, it's not God; it's mostly Greg Edwards (Failure), but that's pretty damn close.
heaps of mp3s available
for Silversun Pickups
go to www.elbo.ws and search
(thread hijack assist)
Yep, an album came out last year (called Disappear Here) and it was great - James Broad recorded it on his laptop but it sounds like the full band - drums, harmonies and all that.
Another album is more or less complete and this time the full band (original line-up) recorded it. Should be out around the time of the gig or just before it...
hmmm
im listening to these so-called silversun pickups, and i like what i hear. thank you kovacs.
aha yes
it's gonna be fantastic. i can't wait.
also
wojtek mateyboy dude from symposium is playing his new stuff. i saw him last week. he was good.
I'm resurrecting this
thread, on the grounds that it was originally posted in the evening when no-ones' around and it was hijacked and... well, because Silversun Pickups are now my current 'favourite band ever', the EP's not been off my stereo since last week, and I have a really poor attention span so it must be doing something right (mainly: sounding like all my favourite bands from the mid 90s playing together) And more people should hear them.
hang on a minute
this band is bloomin ace.
as the self-proclaimed number one Autolux fan on DIS, i can see the comparison - but more Drop Nineteens-ey.
Thanks Kovacs, haven't heard anything in ages that's really excited me like this band.
some of the tracks
from the longplayer Carnavas are up at elbo.ws, and a live performance from the other week at dimeadozen (including the great retort to a heckle 'so you love us but you're not gay.. what does that do for me then?'), you should also be able to pick up a great four track live set from kexp on hype machine. innit. the four tracks melatonin, well thought out twinkles, waste it on and little lovers have been on repeat all this week, this album is going to be brilliant!
ooh, forum search works!
I have discovered Silversun Pickups today and fallen in love. Gorgeous and swirly and ace. It makes me want to be a Californian in the early 90s. Is that possible?
they're great!
somehow i always thought the girl bass-player sang most of the songs until i saw them last month....it's just the singer dude with a higher-pitched voice :p
I am amused that...
...last time this thread got hijacked by people who thought it was about Silver Sun - and now it has been resurrected by fans of the band under original discussion, in the same week that thread-hijackers Silver Sun released their new album. Good work!
haha
I like Silver Sun too...
I did eventually start
talking about the original band again though :)
I didn't find them that good though. They reminded me of Autolux. And I hold a grudge against them or anyone that sounds like them for wasting countless hours of my life trying to like their album, when really it's not that good.
will I like Autolux?
It seems like the sort of thing you'd like, have you given up on them? People who I'm more confident will like this: Colonol K, OceanStorm and possibly Bobbygeorge. It's ace.
It's always 'possibly bobbygeorge'
The unpredictable rascal.
You might like Autolux. I'll lend you the album, and hopefully conveniently forget I have so you keep it forever and it never darkens my door again.
ok
I'll take it off your hands. If I HAVE to.
a year later...
and i feel foolish for not hearing of them until jools. meh. but canvasas is a rather good album. i have to check out autolux as well then . sigh. where have i been.
Yeah
I've been into them since Phil sent me some stuff a few months back.
they have pretty much nailed Early Pumpkins :D
I heard them on Jools
Thought they were good, his voice is a bit dodgy at times. They also have a convenient Truck-sized gap in their tour, and they'll be in the country.
More Our Lady Peace
than Pumpkins, I reckon..
And that's not a compliment.
I dunno with these guys. I feel like it's pushing all the right buttons for me but it feels so glossy, and contrived, and cynical (or..maybe that last one is just me). I was pretty excited by the album the first few times I heard it; within a few days I couldn't hear a note of it without cringing.
Very odd.
is the album worth a download?
Buy it!!!!
.
Yes.
But then again, that's not saying much.
Dull
see them live
they will rip your face off and feed it back to you smiling. think they're doing the Scala on 30th august, I have Prince tickets for the same day and am torn!
