Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

element Muse have arranged some last-minute gigs Belfast and Dublin, to make up for the fact they haven't played there in so long.

Their gig at the 2000-capacity Belfast Ulster Hall due on Feb 21st sold out in an amazing FIVE minutes. The support band has been announced as local firebrands Element (pictured). Element are due to release their debut single on Seeker Records, the label which released Hope Of The States' 'Black Dollar Bills'. There may still be seating tickets left for the following two dates:

Feb 22nd + 23rd @ Dublin Olympia

Meanwhile in other, er, Dublin news: Fountains of Wayne's Dublin show on Feb 28th has been upgraded from The Village to The Ambassador. So that's good too.

  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Just goes to show how many people there are in the world with a taste for bombastic caterwailing bobbins. For gods sake go out and do something less boring instead.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

i agree. muse are incredible, and definetly are not in the slightest boring. maybe it's just massively boring people think extremely exciting bands are boring...
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

i dislike muse. basically cos its music for geeks who like ibanez guitars
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I like Muse. I don't like Ibanez guitars. I have a fender telecaster. Your theory is flawed.
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

you r a geek from hevan (thts a rubbish dis u made)
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

i just dont like their style much, but in fairness they do write good songs and i can see why so many people do like them.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

muse are boring because theyve been doing the same thnig over and over...now if they were to make awesome strides and innovations with each new album like radiohead or someone else like that maybe then they'd be more interesting
theres only so many times i can hear them do the same thing over and over......but then sh** loads of bands can have that said about them

still dont like muse that much ... matts "wish i was jeff buckley/thom yorke" vocals annoy me quite a lot of the time
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

geeks who like ibanez guitars?? riiiiiiiiiight. and there was no progression whatsoever from showbiz to origin of symmetry. of course. you've clearly heard both those albums then.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

i must concur with soapy. muse are incredibly dull and far too 'adult' for their own good. their place is in mojo, not DiS. try checking out planes mistaken for stars, death cab for cutie, cursive, nebraska and bright eyes. now that's some fresh sounding music that comes frrom the heart.
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Oh please. Those are good bands, but how can you reccomend them as opposed to Muse? They're in a completely different style of music. I'm not saying Muse are better, but what's the point in reccomending that to Muse fans? Muse fans are out for overblown, theatrical, moshable rock, and for that, they could do a lot worse. Saying 'listen to bright eyes instead!!!' is like saying to S Club fans "S Club are shit. You should listen to Opeth instead."
      • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

the above is a very good point.
whats the point in wasting your time trying to make people like muse who are never going to like them.
im sure the people who dont like muse respect them as musicians and as people.
unlike the people who dislike s club
      • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

You know, people can like more than one type of music. For example, I like Muse and Death Cab for Cutie, despite the fact that, as you said, they are musically very different.

Having said that, I do get your point.
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Muse are the most popular band on DiS.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I like Muse and this should be a good gig.

Well done to element! They are a great band.. watch this space as I think we will be seeing more of them in the future!
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

    "overblown, theatrical, moshable rock"

Sounds like my worst nightmare. Give me the dulcet tones, twee noodlings and righteous bedsit fans of Belle And Sebastian anyday.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

To all of you who write bad things about the best band in the world, MUSE of course, try to make it better!! Have you ever seen them playing live? They are only a three- piece band and they sound like a five- piece band! I have to write it: Matt Bellamy has the best voice ( much better than Thom Yorke or Jeff Buckley) !! God how he can play the guitar and the piano, it's amazing!! And Dom Howard and Chris Wostenholme are also the best on their instruments!
Why do I write it to bunch of bastards who don't understand them anyway!? Tell me why have YOU read this article about MUSE when you don't like them?
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

".......Tell me why have YOU read this article about MUSE when you don't like them?"

to laugh at their so-easily-wound-up fans who believe the sun shines out of Bellamy's arse (my, that'd make him shriek even more, jaysis...) and they're the best band EVEREVEREVER and if anyone says otherwise they're obviously a cunt or wanker or have no music taste and LA LA LA LA LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU NASTY MUSE-HATERS YOU'RE WRONG I'M RIGHT LALALALALA.........

      etc

      ;)

I'd rather hear their Ned's Atomic Dustbin-covers-band-era material, at least it'd be more of a laff than the same ol' bombastics and guitar scales and that utter recent-Placebo-shit-b-side effort that was one of their chronic recent singles..........i can't be alone in this, suuurely!

and yeah, have seen them, have owned bits of their music before (i even bought one old single with my own Cash Money, theyre not all promo bits..)

I'm gonna go do something a tad more productive now, creosote the fence maybe. x
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

yes...better than jeff buckley...of course he is, and he can fly simply via the power of his mind too i suppose. jeffs wails and soaring highs were placed perfectly to enhance the songs or moments with the music, matt (although not sh*t) often howls in a way which takes away from the music and damages songs. he is quite a good musician, but he manages to counteract it by trying to be all of radiohead at once, resulting in music not as good as i reckon theyre capable of

in response to that guy who seemed to think i havent heard their albums, iv heard all of them (even owned origin once) and they really arent that hot.
listen to fugazi or faith no more - now they are bands who can/did progress between records

seriously theyre not bad but they really arent that good, although they probably one of britains best "big bands" rather them than the darkness. and good on them for selling out the show so quick.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

don't say that matt bellamy is a better singer than jeff buckley. don't do that. because it's wrong.

The problem with Muse is that beneath all the technical virtuosity and massive production is a total and utter lack of decent songs. i'm not bothered by the fact it's overblown wanky shite, but that it's overblown wanky shite to make up for the fact that they can't write good songs.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

what are some of you missing ears or something? Muse are really good. Matt Bellamy is really good. To me they sound good, they are creative and I really believe they are one of the top few best bands on the planet. How many people can play the guitar as well as Matt Bellamy? How many people can sing as well as him? How many people can manage to do both? Not that many. And let me you all in on a secret Matt Bellamy, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley are all different people. What one does should have no impact on your experience listening to another. Personally I like Radiohead and Muse and I don't really like Jeff Buckley, but to each his own. I believe Buckley was an influence on both Yorke and Bellamy, but to me they all sound very different, they are different people and all have different strengths and weaknesses musically. But back to my original point, I dare anybody to start listening to Absolution in a comfortable enviorment and not enjoy the music. If your sitting there thinking this is too complex, or I wish this was more like Emo than I have to say there is something wrong with you, your life perspective and your sense of rhythm. Maybe try smoking a joint first
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I have gotta be one of THE biggest matt bellamy fan ever! He's damn hot damn good guitar player and a fascinatingly great voice and a devil on the keys............ what more can you want ! I agree muse are a one of the best bands around espically live performances!! i love all there songs including there not-so-sucsessfull (so to say) baby rocket doll songs. for those about to listen to muse- i salute you!!
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Muse is not that complex, but they're most definitely overrated.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

"i dislike muse. basically cos its music for geeks who like ibanez guitars"

So yeah, you're SO fucking hardcore, geeks must shit themselves when they see you walking down the street!
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Can't some people not like Muse and be quiet about it without having to use lots of expletives and abuse the band personally?

I bet you don't like a lot of other bands but I think it's Muse's success that makes you so vicious towards them.
    • Re: Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I think you'll find my original message was expletive free and didn't abuse the band personally, only their overblown bombastic wailing. And it seems to be all the muse fans - the people who feel so guilty and dirty about liking them despite the fact they're shite - that are the ones using all the expletives because deep down they know they're wrong, so they have to kick up a bit of a fuss in order to justify themselves.

Regarding their success, well, if muse were overblown and bombastic to themselves without me ever having to hear their aural diarrhoea then yes I would like them a lot better. They may or may not be perfectly nice chaps, I've never met them so I don't have an opinion. But I am SO very very sick of having to repeatedly turn over the channels to avoid his ooh oooh i'm coming i'm coming style wailing.

But hey, if you muse fans want to like a derivative awful dull dull bombastic wailing band when there's so many good ones out there then that's your own problem.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Meh. I'd say they're definitely overrated now. Yes, showbiz was awesome, origin of symmetry was good, but cracks were starting to appear and matt wasn't using his voice as well, and absolution just isn't very good, to be honest. True, he's got a great voice and can play guitar well, but he used his talents much better on showbiz.

In my opinion, it was when they started drawing influences from metal that they started to lose what it was they had that made them special. they now have an even more distinctive sound, but it's just not as pleasant, and the songs coming out of it just aren't as good. I don't believe they'll ever come close again to songs like Muscle museum or cave.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I think OOS was they`re best...but this argument was raging about a month or two ago wasn`t it.

  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I have a question. Why are Muse compared with Radiohead all the time? I like both bands and I can hear a lot of influences, but I disagree when people say that Matt just tries to sound like Thom Yorke. Muse and Radiohead are not alike, they're not in the same league. While Radiohead often play a more sublime kind of music (I don't really know if you can say that in english..), Muse represents a style that sometimes will get you in a larger-than-life-mood (at least if you like them).

Well, that's just my opinion. I LOVE Muse, but I can also see why some don't. They're pretty special.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I think they're a great live band, and I think the first two albums are brilliant but the person who said they hadn't moved on an awful lot also makes a bit of a valid point. Nine Inch Nails are one of my favourite bands of all time, but after Downward Spiral I felt Trent had just about exhausted his whole lyrical thread and needed to move on, which took a while until the mindblowing 'The Fragile'. I think Muse are a little in the same ballpark in the sense that tragic melodrama seems a little less authentic when you're a band who sell plenty of records and have almost universal acclaim...They are a lot more calculated in their artistry than many people maybe realise, and I'd like to see them turn some pages in terms of the tone of their writing, and for Matt to explore new vocal territory in the way Thom did post- OK Computer...(or in the way that Freddy Mercury did over the whole of his career) to have a bit of fun and stretch his own boundaries. At this moment in time, critics are rather too religious about Muse, and the band are doing nothing to turn their captive audience on its head. There is a pigeonhole called Muse, and everyone knows what it sounds like, and what to expect, and that's a bad thing.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

can someone please tell me just how muse actually do sound like radiohead??????

cos ive always been lost on the topic
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

They don't sound much the same nowadays, but 'Showbiz' is eminently in the same melodic and emotional ballpark as 'OK Computer' and 'The Bends', and the comparison has stuck...probably also something to do with having a strange small skinny bloke as the singer for both bands. Vocally I think they borrow a LOT more from Jeff Buckley and his overblown wailing falsettos.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

I'm not allowed to slag them off, I'm from where theyre from (ish) and absolutely no bands come from there, so I have to have local pride.

However, they are a bit shit, arent they? The most interesting thing about them was the fact that Matt Bellamy used to live above a sex shop. It isn't even a very interesting sex shop.
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

    bastards
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

*prods the non-Musers* Muse do not = Radiohead, they comparison has not stuck since Absolution was released, Muse are now a completely different entity from Thom Yorkes amazing Radiohead, they are also amazing, but more of princes of really rather fucking good music, Radiohead, more like the reigning kings, never wobbly, but slightly worrying to everyone else sometimes.....
  • Muse Sellout Gig in Five Minutes

Muse are amazing, whoever thinks that muse are boring must have concrete covering their ears.

I admit that Showbiz is a bit of a letdown as it lacks some originality, But both Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution should blow your socks off! Absolution is an incredible album, and it CANNOT be faulted. Anyone who thinks muse are boring must like Fountains Of Wayne and Busted. As For the radiohead comparison? Well, personally I don't like Radiohead much, but I can see where it comes from in the fact thay play more diverse music that most mainstream rock bands.
