Well, the excess of the Xmas period has FINALLY cleared and we are back with the latest mutterings on the musical grapevine...

First up is Hull's Age Of Jets, who have had their debut single 'RPM' delayed by a week to March 1st. The band emphasised though that the album will still be out in late March and they'll be playing the Norwich Ferry Bar and London Metro to promote the album (30 Mar & 5 Apr respectively).

Melbourne's flavour band of the moment Jet (okay, they're not exactly an unknown!) are to do a live performance and a signing of new single 'Look What You've Done'. It is all happening at Virgin Megastore, Oxford Street on Monday 8th March. Events kick off at 5.30pm.

The Dawn Parade have announced details of their next release, entitled 'Broke on Angel Street'. It'll be released in May through Sugartown Records. It has been quite a year for the Suffolk-based band, which culminated in them scooping Rolling Stone's Single Of The Year (in the Well Hung At Dawn section).

Indie label Eyesore Records has decided to call it a day after three years. James and Paul who ran the label had this to say:

"The business is a stressful one for the smaller tykes out there, and also an expensive jaunt too. We are therefore sad to announce that we have reluctantly decided to bow out of the business and retire Eyesore Records."

They are currently having a clearout of the label's back catalogue (check the website), and are going out with a BANG with one final gig at Birmingham's Flapper & Firkin on March 7th. The bands are The Killerest Expression, Jerry-Built, Darlison and Shortcut To Newark.

The supremely indie Abuse Records have announced some details of this year's release schedule. Although there are no specified dates, label owner Sid has revealed that we can expect a 100 Bullets Back 7", a Polar Remote 12", The Souls 7" and the Yumi Yumi album, as well as the latest 'Abuse Your Friends' compilation, now up to volume four.

Santa Barbara five-piece The Snake The Cross The Crown have been signed by Equal Vision Records. On the band's agenda is their debut album which they are set to start recording in April. They'll also play a musical showcase in Austin, Texas along with the Dillinger Escape Plan. The band have one release to their name already, the 'Like A Moth Before A Flame EP', which was released on Waste Of Time Records in August 2003. To hear a few tracks from their EP, click here.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

I remember when the NME was making a lot of noise about Jet, so I went to see them on their first UK tour playing in the Louisiana (a tiny little pub venue in Bristol). I thought they were dreadful but thought that things would improve. Nothing that has happened since suggests that they have...

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

I have to agree, I lent the album off a mate, and it really is one big retro crapfest. They make Kings of Leon look like Squarepusher.
Luckily for me I've not had the misfortune of seeing them live.

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

Sa them at Reading and my one abiding memory is thinking 'do we really need another bad Rolling Stones covers band?' I maintain that we don't.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Par

I concur. Jet are shit. I also lent the album and fucking hell, it's rubbish.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

I went out and bought the album, fucks knows why, afetr reading a review. I agree with all of the above. Except I have to add that some of their slower songs sound like Robbie Williams and I just cant get past that. Dont get me wrong if they were my mates I would be toatlly hyping them up. But they're not so I shal say they are shite.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

im sure 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl,' has the guitar at the start as 'iggy - pop lust for life'
and it also sounds surprisingly like the baby bell advert
'ba-ba-ba ba-baby bell'. that part.
dunno if its just me tho, does anyone else hear it?

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

I think you'll find that rather than nicking it from the babybell advert, they nicked it from the Beach Boys' "Barbara-Ann". So there.

Jet are indeed one of the most offensive bands I have ever come accross.

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

oh yeh i didnt actually notice that. either way its still exactly the same as something and not original.

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

yeah but crossed with Touch me by The doors. Every single riff on that album is far to close to what they ripped it off from.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

i have to stick my oar in and say how pleased i am to hear that other people have the same opinion as i.
Jet were being hyped to the max so i borrowed a copy of the album and it is criminal. absolute shite. how they receive such applause from the NME is beyond me(although they're not the first!).
i was beginning to think i was alone in my down right disgust for the chancers but thankfully no.
i would rather be in a bedsit playing songs to my cooker than play that drivel.
long live original hearts.

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn

Yes, I probably hate Jet more than most bands.
Dickheads.
Grrr.

I HAVE TO DISSAGREE WIV U ALL JET MUST BE GOOD IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER OR THEY WOULDNT HAVE IMPRESSED RECORD COMPANIES AND BROUGHT OUT AN ALBUM AND THREE SINGLES THEY MUST BE DOING SUMMAT RIGHT MUSNT THEY AS WITH EVERY OTHER BAND THAT IS AROUND GETTING SLAGGED OFF IF THEY WEREN DOING SOMETHING TO IMPRESS PEOPLE THEN THEY WOULDNT STILL BE BRINGING OUT RECORDS !

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

The Cheeky Girls have got a record deal so that means they're "doing summat right" too - although in both cases i don't think that "summat" is making good music.

I don't feel like wanking over Jet either.

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

Sorry, regret the last line of my previous post already. You can take a joke too far.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

thats ok, its exactly what teh NME do when theyre not wanking over the strokes..or more resently, franz ferdinand. jet got signed cause they fitted a certain niche in the music industry, not because they are/were any good.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

hey franz ferdinand have made a reasonable album in my opinion. jet are second division play off material, franz ferdinand are middle of the premiership.

DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

Middle of the premiership??? You wanna give the crack pipe back to who you stole it from :o)

Re: DiScover The Unknown: February 2004: Jet, Dawn Parade, Age Of Jets...

Ah, wondered where my crack pipe had gone...
