Ash are back at full volume...

Drowned in Sound has become a partner for the new digital single from British rock's finest Ash.

The track 'Clones' is the band’s first bit of new material to preview their louder than you remember 'em, 'Meltdown' album, which is due in May.

Ash are currently on tour with support from dis-faves Winnebago Deal.

They were very good in Newport as well. The single doesn't appear typical of the album, which they are playing in full on the current tour...

Shame, as I really, really like the new single. I was horrified when I heard the clichéd opening, but for once Wheeler's vocals seem to complement rather than detract from the song.

Damian - are they just previewing the album or are they playing other stuff too? Being only a 'minor' fan of the band, I'd like to know what of their material I should be revising for the Oxford show.

When I say it's not typical, certainly the new stuff's harder... it's just that most of it is a lot more melodic than 'Clones'.

As for the live set, without doing spoilers, they play all the tracks from the new album plus about 10 or 11 oldies. Singles during the main set and rarities in the encore.

Sounds brilliant, I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for the info, and a more melodic version of 'Clones' sounds ideal for my ears.

Yeah, it is on the album, which is why I'm not paying 99p to download it. If it had 'b-sides' too for that price, which it should considering the lack of overheads involved, I'd buy it.

It seems download-only singles are just even more of a rip-off than normal singles on CD that you can't buy anywhere.

Yeah, they are unless like some bands do when they give them away for free.

The next Fades single is gonna' be a free download and there was one recently for Michael Rattray Allstars which was quite good - get it from www.genepoolrecords.com

i just got is free off a filesharing network, (although it being a lower res version, sounds like a stream).

Its got a lost prophets riff, but its not too bad.
Just annoying each lp that comes out, you wait for ash to find their feet again,and each time they dont, its another rock-a-genre.

I'll be sceptical to go for their next lp,the last i got stung, which lyrically, stank like ...dung.

They were good in MK.. but the new material sounded forced. It just isn't Ash. I actually can't stand Clones :(

You're not alone. Whoever wrote the lyrics to this song should step away from the rhyming dictionary right now.
That said, the riff is ok.

its a bit repetitive and much darker than previous material. doesn't really sound like ash at all, its a bit heavy and not very easy listening. its not something i would listen to alot.

Yep agree totally, Ash go rock in style. New album sounds brill, a bit harder than FAA so glad to see em not just doing the same thing again. Can't beat those sweet melodies!
