well, ghana are having a go, aren't they? quite impressive so far although their defence does tend to crumble like a stood-on sandcastle when italy charge at them.

could we have some more football threads please?
it just seems like there aren't enough.
Nice :D
Why are you reading football threads instead of answering my PMs?
Eh?
Eh?
don't read them then.
crikey
that was a strike and a half.
"Pearler from Pirlo!"
He may be old, decrepid and senile, but Motson can still make me smile
this is a really good game
ghana are great to watch.
and Essien is fucking great
ooh, totti is injured.
i realise it happened about ten minutes ago
but i think it's still note-worthy. could be their downfall.
decent game
a shame that the two best african sides were drawn in the 'groups of death'.
Totti will probably be fine
didn't look too bad, Italy looked alright, Ghana were pretty poor
no
Ghana were OK.
Italy scored on 2 mistakes...
Ghana? Poor?
Sure, there were a few defensive whoopsies, but they totally exceeded my expectations by playing fluid, well thought out football and taking some really great risks.
They were a joy to watch and I honestly believe they didn't deserve to lose. ESPECIALLY not by two goals.
and
they had a player called pimpong, which surely deserves a point irrespective of the result.
they deserved two penalties
as for that big old actor jacinta (?) someone give him an oscar and be done with it.
that tackle
did look nasty
They were poor
they had nothing going forward, just Essien long shots. Their full backs had no positional sense, Appiah was pants, Italy hardly got going
I think they were lucky to lose by 2.
Good in midfield, poor in defence and attack. They didn't trouble the Italian defence once.
Good game
Essien was fantastic and Ghana deserved at least the first penalty appeal. That said, Italy exposed them at the back and made them pay for throwing too many men forward.
Good game.
'there's no time for you Martin'
I'm loving the world cup so far, every game I've watched (most of them) has been brilliant. (apart from the England match...)
And its Brazil tomorrow!
there's been no giant killing!
that irritates me
Thursday?
australia's come back
and first world cup win today wasnt giant killing for sure, but was still satisfying.
Too much giant killing can be bad anyway - like in 2002. You want to see the big teams against each other in the world cup.
and Martin O'Neill
ripping into Desailly, "I don't care how many World Cups and European Cups you've won, (you basically don't know what you're talking about)"
I may have added the last bit
(you basically don't know what you're talking about... you complete cunt)"
I added some more.
on a side note
martin o'neill; worst pundit ever?
possibly.
i mean, come on, the guy cant even string a sentence together without stumbling over his words, AND when he does finally say what hes trying to it is invariably not all that worthwhile.
desailly was alright
but i cant figure out why leonardo is a pundit, the man has nothing really to offer apart from that hes brazilian.
i thought ghana played some fliud passing stuff in the midfield but the defence and attack are shocking, essien was on top form though
I think Leonardo is good
he offers a viewpoint that is not British and he's quite articulate considering English is not his first language.
'and my second point is'
'erm, i've lost my train of thought'
Thats ok Martin, just interrupt whoever else is speaking once you remember.
I wanted to see
a Hansen O'Neill brawl over that penalty appeal
the best near brawls
were always between hansen and jimmy hill. Just add Andy Gray and you'd have panelist armegeddon.
I do like the tension and egos on the BBC panel though - better than the blandness of Townsend et al at ITV.
I always thought
That O'Neill seemed like a nice enough guy until this evening. He came across as a complete cunt.
Ian Wright never has much to add. And the BBC are always asking Terry Butcher what he thinks... Why?
so
they can start a sentence with "and now to see what a former England captain has to say". I don't like Terry Butcher
me neither
That's because he's a wally
A big wally.
I had no idea the word
'wally' still existed?!
Even though you are one
Wally.
Italy looked good
and they've still got a couple of key players to come back
That's a tough group
I think whoever from that group plays Brazil in the second round is going to give them a great game.
It certainly is and the
Czechs looked good as well, so much for the good old US
The Czech's looked great.
They play as if they play together all the time.
They really did
They knew where each other was going to be. They've been my highlight of the tournament so far. Brilliant in midfield, solid in defence when needed and took their chances.
shame about Koller though
If they finish second
I think they'll beat Brazil.
That's quite a claim
I'll reserve judgement on that until after this evening's entertainment.
I know
I just get the feeling Italy or Czech Republic will beat them (if they play them). It might be false hope though as I never usually get these things right.
Arsenal have got a great
signing in Rosicky though some people are going on about him as if he's a new player when he's been about for years. Not sure why no one bought him before.
I think Poborsky might have the Holy Grail hidden somewhere
