I've realised that three of my most favourite songs fade in:

New Slang - The Shins
Dress Up In You - Belle & Sebastian
Steak for Chicken - The Moldy Peaches

any others?

The Smiths - Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

Fades in and out at the beginning.

That wins.

also

Hand in Glove

cap'n jazz

little league.

the fall - two librans

is it really wrong that i didnt even notice the tp 3 faded in til just now and now i can hear it and ... it seems quite clever

"...fades in."

One of my favourite examples is Mogwai's 'Hunted By A Freak'...

even better

2 Rights Make 1 Wrong.

Hunted by a Freak doesn't fade in

It just starts really quietly...

oh man!

Radiohead - Black Star!

....

joy division - insight

Yeah, I wish it didn't, though

I hate fade-ins and fade-outs...

yes

whenever i listen to it i think you could make it go on forever by joining up the end with the start.

.

ooh. 'never stops never rests never sleeps' by misty's keeps on fading in and out

Yes it does

they even crouch down during the quiet bits when they play it live :D

.

ALL bands that have songs that fade in should crouch down and then gradually stand up as it starts.

it should be the law

and the other way round for fade outs

Or have platforms

that rise and fall with the volume of the music, yarr.

.

one platform for the whole band or individual ones? it would be like kiss or something

Individual ones.

Although i suppose if everyone starts at the same time really loud they'll be shot into the ceiling of the venue...

at least

it would make a good show.

bands short on budget could just have roadies/mates picking them up instead

Hehe yeah

or have car jacks and have the roadies pump them up. So to speak.

There's always

Turning American by The Wildhearts. And quite a few of their songs, come to that.

<

The Grid - Golden Dawn
Carter USM - The Impossible Dream

Couple of crackers there.

what did you reckon of that new vines album

wrighty seeing as you like em?

I love it.

It sounds like Sanic Yoth.

Wrong one sorry, its Atmos I'm on about.

I think its good. Its not amazing, like Highly Evolved, but its got some crackers on it.

Vision Valley, Going Gone... some of the best songs he's written.

You?

And Atmos doesn't sound like Sonic Youth...

but it does fade in.

Futuretarded sounds like SY!!!

Mmmmm,

crackers. Got any cheese for them?

LOL!

Yeah. Fuck the World is slightly cheesy.

Copycat.

It doesn't fade in, FFS! :D

it just starts quietly.

Same difference.

NO NO NO!

Quite different.

Building up quietly is nothing like starting a song full blast then going back and dialing it up slowly to maximum.

The first is great.

The second means someone cocked up at the beginning and no one could be arsed to go back and fix it.

OR

the second means that the studio recording was too long and so the song gets edited either side, which can be quite good. Like the Peel session of 'New Face In Hell'...

yes!

and By Starlight by the Smashing Pumpkins.

"and By Starlight by the Smashing Pumpkins."

same album - Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans

BEST SONG EVER

Deeper Into Movies that is.

near enough

:)

ba ba ba

belle and sebastian's Sleep the Clock Around is one of my all time favourite songs and that fades in :)

that son off vu's loaded

about a train comin round the bend. Possibly called "Train comin round the bend?"

Talking Heads

Cities. One of my favourite ever tunes.

The Dandy Warhols are good at this

see Godless and the first song on Come Down (might be called Be In, I can't remember)

It fades in halfway through if that counts

but Happy Man by Sparklehorse is the best, and it's also the best song that's ever used the technique, in my considered opinion.

Metallica....

"Hit The Lights"

tool

basically every song theyve ever released. but especially schism.

ooh

Teenage Fanclub - Star Sign

Jane's Addiction - Obvious

Obviously.

the Hatful of Hollow version

of Hand in Glove's fade in is classic, so haunting

and the piece de la resistance:

Television Eyes by Trans Am.

To say that song is good is a criticism.

The Wedding Present

Spangle.

New Order

Temptation

Only living boy in new york

simon and garfunkel. (i think anyway)
