Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

The line-up for this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals has been partially announced. It’s time to party like it’s August 2002.

Confirmed so far: The Darkness, The Offspring, Ash, The Hives (Friday Reading/Saturday Leeds), White Stripes, Morrissey, The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand (Saturday Reading/Sunday Leeds) with Green Day and 50 Cent (Sunday Reading/Friday Leeds). Other confirmations include Lostprophets and The Streets.

The Carling Weekend Reading and Leeds Festival takes place over the weekend of August 27-29 at Richfield Avenue, Reading and Bramham Park, Wetherby, West Yorkshire. Tickets cost £105 (weekend) or £45 (day), plus booking fee, and postage. Only weekend tickets include camping.

Only two of the acts announced so far (50 Cent and Morrissey) have NOT played at the event in recent years. The regular soap opera of confirmations and cancellations is expected to follow over the coming months.

Multi-platinum selling rapper 50 Cent, was caught out at the recent Brit Awards after sending his security to sort out someone nearby who was teasing him. It turned out to be famed gangster, Dave Courney. Upon realizing that it was Mr. Courtney (who owns the security firm they work for), the guards greeted the London murderer and left him alone.

DiScuss: Is there a sense of déjà vu about this line-up? Who do you want to play Reading and Leeds? What did you think of the new Leeds site? What improvements can be made for a better event this year?

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

My god, thank christ for the smaller stages. I always go to reading cos its a laugh whoever plays but a nice lineup always helps. Doesnt look too good so far. Bit of Moz will be nice but The Libertines AGAIN, The Offspring AGAIN I wouldnt mind if any of them deserved to play Reading the first time round ...but they didnt. Cunts.

50 Cent..like thats actually real hiphop. Bring on a bit of J5 or DJ Format

"50 Cent..like thats actually real hiphop. Bring on a bit of J5 or DJ Format" ...or The Roots, Blackilicous or Pharcyde

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

the pharcyde? They died after their first album, everything theyve done since has been utter shit

£105 for the weekend?

i wish there was a sense of deja vu about that

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Oh my god that's such a shit line-up!
Last year's was so much better!
I have to think really hard about whether I'm going to go this year.
I mean, is it really worth it? All the bands are rubbish!

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I'm sure there'll be some Oliveri and Homme action.
And maybe some Pj Harvey in the early afternoon.
And praps even some Sonic Youth specialness.
Praps some Weezer?
Dashboard? Saves the Day? thisGIRL? Funeral? Ikara? Amen?
Bobby Conn? Bright Eyes (tho he's meant to be doing Glasto!)? Beck (again!)? Courtney Love?
And I'd be surprised if Muse and Idlewild don't put in appearances. Well, I'd be more surprised if they announced Explosions in the Sky headlining the new bands tent, but stranger things have happened...

It'll all depend who announces comeback albums for October time. And then any unlikely bands who hit the top40 between now and July, that don't get snapped up by other fests.

It does feel like the same bands every year tho. Maybe they should revert back to letting the headliners pick and invite bands onto the bills a la ATP? And then make the other stages even bigger and better.

Dreeeee-eeee-eam... dream, dream, dream...

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I was kidding because you can guarantee that all the people that go every year will just moan for the next 4 months (just look at the majority of the comments) and then go and have the times of their lives
fools

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

so true, but with a shit initial showing like that, you cannae blame us

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

the initial showing is always shit cos the same bands play every year
but as soon as all your favourite bands are announced lower down on the bill you get happy

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

alcxxk, do you actually like anything?

i swear every comment i read of yours is damning on whatever you're commenting on...

maybe it's just me.

also: i liked what raz was saying
and i like fourtet and radiohead
lets be friends

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Add to this list of nicer thoughts:
International Noise Conspiracy? Blood Brothers?

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Yeah i'd love to see the Blood Brothers live again - theyre a proper punk band unlike some on the bill. My ears need further punishing!

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Things can only get better, as far as line-up announcements go. Anyway, there's more pressing issues. Worthy Farm is calling me. :-)

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

What a shit line up all in all.

I'm happy about Lostprophets and The Hives but it's nothing to yell about.

I'm up for thisGIRL, Agent Blue, Story Of The Year, Incubus (which I think will happen), Hundred Reasons again after last years amazing performance, Million Dead, AMEN, Air, Ikarus Line and I want Silverchair to play (which won't happen).

There won't be any appearance from Muse because of the V festival... infact, the V fest line up so far is better.

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

the best line up so far has 2 b download i think, i am hoping that reading festival will improve slightly more as is not as gd as past years but it is not that bad i dont think...........?

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

yeah, its true to say that every year the line up gets less interesting....but then the smaller stages get even better...maybe I'm just maturing (tho i doubt that). I guess the point is its always a laugh; as long as theres floodlights, and music, and abynthe and romance, we'll face the music and dance. (sorry...i couldn't help myself)

Good point about the proper Hip Hop, its about time Reading spread itself a bit wider. Yeah, Run DMC was great, but Eminem and 50 Cent and D12 aren't exactly what hip hop is all about.

I know its a rock festival, but I wager that the majority of people there would prefer to see J5 or Format, or DJ Yoda than Green Day for the hundredth time.

....still I guess I'll see you all there

Peace.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Now all I've got to do is get a free pass, all my expenses paid and some money for being there and I'm in. Was pretty cool last year when I did it that way...

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

.....do you want a medal with that?

....or how about this cool refreshing glass of shut up juice??

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

the new leeds site is fucking bum

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I liked the new site... The camping is a lot better.
The walk from entrance to main stage is a bit of a bugger tho to be fair

Re: Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

>The walk from entrance to main stage is a bit of a bugger tho to be fair

No bad thing ... the Reading site chucks you straight into a campsite-shaped bottleneck and it's a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

this line up is totally unimpressive. Lets hope the radio1 stage has something better to offer.

REALLY hope the distillers go..along with QOTSA
and where are hundred reasons?

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

it is pretty mundane thus far but like raz says, it always looks shit at first. i've got my ticket already anyway - last year proved to me that you can have a great time regardless of whether you see many bands or not. not an offspring fan but they are admittedly a great festival band, i reckon they'll be enjoyable - as will morrissey and the darkness. roll on the announcements for the smaller stages.

it could be worse! :)

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

the line up seems like a 'cant be bothered' line up to me, as though theyve picked the most obvious acts they could. oh these bands have charted lets get em on.
but hopefully there will be a few new suprises.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

i bet snow patrol will be there, headlining Radio one or something...because of their smash hit...Run

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I think Mean Fiddler have dug there own grave. After two years of solid line-ups there is really no where they can go to to out do them selves. I think for sure that there will be a few bigger names added to the list but this year rather than go for the weekend maybe just a day ticket. I couldn't justify paying £105 on a weak line-up like that. And I don't care what anyone says about 'oh i'm going to see the smaller bands', its the headliners that will sell you the ticket. Always, you know I'm right

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

please tell me cuz im confused is there a chance of muse headlining if they were to play they wouldnt be placed any lower than that as they co-headlined two years ago and since then produced an amazing album?

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Weekend tickets are allready sold out :(

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

wrey! I got a ticket too Gen. I'll see you there. Everyone stop whining. The initial statement which need not be written is the guarenteed atmosphere every year. Stop complaining and have fun for 5 days

Massimo

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

yeah mines booked, and you will get a weekend ticket Robin.

Try www.stargreen.com - theyre normally quite good.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

supermuse- muse will not play. Firstly because if the were going to they would headline the main stage and secondly because they're headlining V- they can't do both.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

It's usually worth going for the overall line-up, not necessarily the headliners. If your worries relating to booking tickets are about the line-up, go ahead and book it... you'll be fine.

If, like me, your worries are more about the horrendous state of the Reading site, that's a different matter. I'm a festival veteran, I have no problem with Glastonbury's toilets or anything like that, but the conditions at Reading for the last two years have been intolerable (as opposed to previous years at the same festival). Can anyone tell me what the new Leeds site was like last year? It's twice the trip for me but I'm tempted.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

im so not bothering this year. tickets have already sold out at most places.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

book the tickets all you moaning geezers, i hear on the street that GLC will play

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I think the line up is not bad ... green day will be fun!
the day is young and I'm sure they will add some bands to the bill I didn't expect to see at reading.

i can't wait to go ...

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

Looks like V may be best festival this yr. Pixies (!), The Strokes, Muse and surely lots of lovely others.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

I feel disappointed by this years headlining bands. I wanted Beastie boys and AC/DC. Nevermind, sure to get better.

Reading/Leeds Line-Up Announced - Deja Vu?

j5 are now confirmed......and damian, the new leeds site was cool. very....um.....green.
