Artists: Ox
Now that Ryan Adams has finished throwing his annual globe-sized hissy fit, it’s time for him to bog off for a bit and make room for the new alt.country kids on the block. Among this year’s newest bright sparks is Canada’s Ox, aka one-man-band Mark Browning, who is currently over here blitzing the UK over a series of dates this month (details below).

Mixing the best bits of country and folk-pop, Browning’s self-financed debut album ‘Dust Bowl Revival’ is quite the stunner. Fans of Adams’ early work in particular, as well as more traditional strands of the genre, will find much to love about Ox. You can download standout track ‘Transam’ by clicking here and marvel at a song that manages to combine the James Bond Theme with REM-stylings and still sound wonderfully unique.

The band, who’ve already taken their native country by storm, will be recording live sessions for Virgin FM and Dublin’s Today FM, as well as appearing on Gideon Coe’s 6music show on April 23rd. Ox will be playing the following dates:

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

All those craphole places and not the biggest craphole of all?

(Birmingham)

What the hell have bands got against the second city anyway? Always miss us out.

Muthro fuckros!

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

This album is amazing. I have had the pleasure of seeing OX live in Vancouver Canada with a bunch of friends who and we all bought the CD off the stage following his performance. He is that good. If you get a chance to see him while he is in UK, you should.

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

I had the pleasure of seeing Ox in Oxford on Tuesday, they were superb, it was a real treat to see such a high quality act in an intimate venue. You could tell from the whole audience's reaction that Ox are something special; everyone was so quiet during 'Weaving' which Mark performed alone, that you could hear his every breath. There is so much space in their music, but they also really know how to rock when it comes to it! Definitely go and see them if you get the chance.

Re: Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

I agree they are one of the coolest bands I have seen for a very long time and I mean a long time.
Did you do know that every night is a different set list
I've seen OX several several times now (although only once with the band) cann't wait to see them next Friday at the Borderline
with Romney Getty. Why don't you come down for the show, it's a Friday night and as you know it will definatly be worth the trip.

ox is the best fucking band from canada to hit england shores since confederation! I saw him at the Rail and he blew my mind. how can a band remind me of neil young, arlo gutherie, ac/dc and iron maiden all at the same time but pull it together so well that the sound is theirs and theirs alone. DON'T MISS this chance to see them because i'm telling you, when he comes back, it's not gonna be some cozy cool 12 bar or borderline....it'll be fucking glastonbury or some other god forsaken humongous festival where they'll be but teeny specks far far away and you'll be kicking yourself wondering why didn't you listen.....

ox rocks ox is a fox xo to ox

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

Hate to disagree with everyone but i saw Ox earlier in the year and they were awful, the only song that i liked happened to be the only one sung by the girl. Maybe they're better on record, but live they were crap

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

Well, each to his own... But you're SO wrong!

;)

Anyway, right now they're playing as a 3-piece so the girl-sung-song won't be sung by girl. I'll definitely be seeing them again at the borderline on Friday cos they are well worth it!

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

just to let you know - the ox session on gideon coe has been re-scheduled for Friday 14th May.

there's another Ox from Brighton isn't there? Bit travis-y. Maybe that's the one the chaps who found them dull have seen...
