There’s been a tendency for harmony-driven Scottish bands to be lumped under the same Big Star rip-off banner. It makes a change, then, that one should rip off Weezer instead. Hello Boss Star and their EP track ‘Oh Baby’, which has a riff nicked straight from ‘Dope Nose’.

A powerpop-luvvin’ girl like myself, however, finds it hard to have any dislike for them. Although they wear their influences firmly on their sleeves, and EP-opener ‘Starlight’ worryingly nudges Del Amitri’s ‘Last To Know’, they get away with it. Their sound is buoyant bubblegum, messy melodies, powerchords and ‘70s guitar, which makes for a very pleasing four tracks.
