After a two-year hiatus, you really expect, nay, demand that a new Seafood single is vital - the last pump of the chest that brings a lifeless body back from the dead. That vital. 'Good Reason', whilst reasonably good, isn't vital. It feels too safe, a by-numbers retread of songs written by another band in their infancy. It doesn't sound like the Seafood we expect. We want crashing and banging. We get slick, yet unremarkable, indie-rock. Frontman David Line's vocals still resonate with the same infuriated urgency that they did some seven years ago, but the music accompanying them is nothing better than workmanlike. There are better songs, far better songs, on the forthcoming 'As The Cry Flows'. Let's just hope that this average single doesn't put off any newcomers to one of the UK's finest guitar bands.

Seafood - Good Reason

man the b-sides are amazing. I'd buy it just for them. 'last outpost' is what everyone wants... crashing guitars, duo vocals between david and caroline at the end. Beautiful.

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

You're right actually. Should have mentioned that.

Seafood - Good Reason

I'll let you off the criticism because you said they are one of Britains finest guitar bands.

Plus I haven't heard it and choice of singles has always been Seafoods way of handicapping themselves.

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

your wrong.....this is a three/four star single i thank you.

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

Nah, he's right - it's average. It deserves an average mark.

Still I never did understand the widespread hatred of Seafood. Never thought they were great but I always found them okay to listen to...

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

Maybe thats the reason. so average, we wish they'd do something really shit just so they were interesting.

I've always had them in a "For fans of: Biffy Clyro" category. perhaps unfairly. someone gave me a tape a couple of years ago, i might look it out tomorrow to check.

Seafood - Good Reason

Not yet heard anything except The Last Outpost, and that was simply amazing.

It's been a long time, but welcome back Seafood. One of britain's finest guitar bands indeed.

Seafood - Good Reason

He's right about the album, there are far better songs on there, but far better singles I'm not sure about. Wait till you hear 'Heat walks against me', now that's a song. 'Orange Rise' is also fantastic, a sort of alt-country thing, almost Hefner-ish.

I think it's their best album yet.

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

Heart Walks... is an ace song. The way it shifts halfway through is incredible, but you're right - it wouldn't make an effective single.

Good Reason IS a decent enough single, but is decent enough what we want? Still, it's a vessel for the great b-sides, so perhaps 2.5 was a little harsh. Still an average mark though, not terrible or anything.

Re: Seafood - Good Reason

I meant Heat.
D'uh.

Seafood - Good Reason

2.5 fair enough I reckon - if you gave it a four, that'd mean it's almost as good as Bigmouth Strikes Again or Teen Spirit.

But it'll open them up to a new audience I reckon - Cloaking was a great song, but not a 'single' really.

Really want to hear the B-sides now, will go purchase at lunchtime.

Seafood - Good Reason

Yeah the B-sides are cracking. I think its a good song but when taking in context of the album sounds like a forced attempt to make a pop single, but in Seafoods situation I think this is what they have to do.

Seafood - Good Reason

If you're going to the birmingham gig, on of the support bands is Panda Love Unit, who are a quality 'noisier earlier Seafood' from brum, saw them at the B&G for the Smalltown America PSB #2 Launch - get there early enough to see 'em, they're ace.

Seafood - Good Reason

the album is a more light affair i found. Its good, but takes a few plays to get into it. Its not as organic sounding, sounds alot more mechanical. Cant really explain why, maybe some of the effects used in certain songs. Still gonna buy it tho, iknow its a grower.

I got the single today, the 7-inch, the bside on that is a nice little acoustic affair.
Couldnt get hold of the cd single!!!!Nowhere stocked it, hmv or virgin near where i live!

Seafood - Good Reason

i own every single seafood CD release up until now,
and yet i can't even muster up the effort to go and find a record shop to buy this one in.

i think its because i didn't like the last album much, but still, i used to love them.

if i buy this one, will it make me love them again, or will it be £3 better spent on beer?

Seafood - Good Reason

you will love em. i have every &2 too. the cd has last outpost on and the another country type song and the 7" has a cool acoustic one

Seafood - Good Reason

oops, i meant to put 7" not &2

Seafood - Good Reason

i think this is brilliant. its been a while though hasnt it! saw them in oxford last night and they seemed a bit rusty to be honest..
