Artists: The Strokes

Perhaps you've seen the adverts for T-Mobile's series of Street Gigs - the telephone people laid on a few last year, with some degree of success. This year sees them offering customers the chance to see The Strokes, only there's nothing particularly street about the selected venue.

The New York quintet will play The Natural History Museum, London, on July 6 - last time we looked, those big dinosaur casts weren't surrounded by speeding cars. (One of) the band said:

"We have played in many different places before but never in front of a dinosaur, we are looking forward to it, will be a great night."

Tickets for the gig can be won or bought, or something. Try clicking here for more information. And stuff.

The Strokes release a new single, 'You Only Live Once', on July 10.

Did anyone get their 3rd album?

I feel a bit sad for them now and I always loved them from the beginning - bless.

Oh my word

The NMH is the best place for a gig in the world. I went to the Exhibition Road music festival last week and it was brilliant though the musicians only played outside the NMH (they did play inside the V&A though which was amazing). It's been my dream to have a gig in there for ages. Shame it's going to be impossible to get tickets.

well

there's this - http://gigs.t-mobile-campaign.co.uk/gigslistings/
but it doesn't really say anything different.
i guess you've gotta be on t-mobile to be privvy to these things.

You have to register

and spam your friends email addresses with registration messages too and they send you a txt with a URL once they announce something (probably also using your phone number for other adverts) and you go into a draw or something like that. A bit impossible really.

dont think it is that hard...

...you just have to be on t-mobile and enter your details - you'll get spammed but none of your friends...

i registered a while back and got tickets for dirty pretty things (didn't go ;) ) and maximo park a couple of weeks ago which was awesome...plus free bar!!

hopefully ill be able to go to this also...

Surely someone at T-Mobile

is just being tres witty for our amusement in setting up this particular location for the strokes to play at?

Lumbering, largely inept & slow-witted creatures (particulary bad at expressing themselves vocally) who for a while ruled the earth then gradually became extinct...are playing with some dinosaurs. Thats your career looking at you in 60-foot stuffed beast form lads!

ZING!

something wrong

about this.
sure enough, would be brilliant to see them in such an interesting venue (aslong as they left out the majority of their 3rd album) but why do they have to hook up with a phone company. never in favour of sponsorship but i understand how useful it can be to give small bands a leg up, do the strokes need a leg up?
why not use their initiative a little and explore some intimate cave like venues 'sea power' style without some fuckin 'tampax presents' slogan behind them.

3rd record

their third album is their best record.

LOL

You serious?

..

yup. i really think it is. it's the one that i've kept listening to the longest. has 5 or 6 absolute gold songs

Nah,

Would love to say it's a great album but it clearly isn't. Lacks ideas and churns out the same lame tempo, tired riffs and half hearted lyrics on far too many of the songs. The only songs that hint at urgency and really 'caring' about their output are 'you only live once', 'heart in a cage' and 'fear of sleep'. the rest don't even make good b-sides.
