Greetings. UK Pop Chart - Week-ending 23rd May 2004. Here is the guff:

Our Kaiser Chiefs single hot-footed it in at 66 this week. DiS gives big sloppy wet kisses to all of you lot who bought it. It also charted at 7 in the indie chart and has sold out in many cities. Ooooooh.

Elsewhere, The Cribs go in at 75, Million Dead are at 72, and Agent Blue's wonderfuly titled 'Sex, Drugs And Rocks Through Your Window' is at 71.

Up there in the Top 10 is Cassidy feat. R Kelly at 3, while a hot new girl band (who, quite frankly, look identical to All Saints), The 411 are at 4 with 'On My Knees'. The Corrs make their comeback at 6.

ATL, whoever/whatever that is, is at 12, and horrible American rawk band The Calling are at 13 with 'Our Lives'. Go away.

Muse milk their album a bit more with 'Sing For Absolution' (16), fucking Abba and the re-release of 'Waterloo' somehow gets as high as 20 (who's buying that record?), while Kevin Lyttle only manages 22. Then there's some idiot from American Idol World Idol, Kurt Nilsen, at 25, beating the far more ace PJ Harvey (28).

And there's more... Nick Drake's first ever single, 'Magic', is in at 32, and Brand New get a hit at 39, Millwall FC suffer a double loss this week by missing out on the Top 40 by one place, and The Others also narrowly miss out on the 'big' chart by going in at 42. Ach well.

AND FINALLY (at last) there's Zero 7 at 56, Sting (!) at 60 and System Of Life at 63. We don't have the full top 100, but Barenaked Ladies were something like 91 in the midweek last time we looked, so there's little hope there. Good.

The album charts have some 'interesting' new entries too. Keane hold on to the top spot and Morrissey is No. 2. Then there's Ash at 5, Alanis at 8, Gabrielle at 10, The Charlatans at 13, Graham Coxon at 19, New Found Glory at 27, Method Man at 29, and Gomez (yuck) at 35. Lenny Kravitz, meanwhile, heads for the dumper at 74.

Right. That'll do. Bye.

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Why on EARTH are people buying the Keane album when they already own 'Parachutes'?

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Probably the same reason that you keep visiting DiS! You're back for more!

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

"Why are you even here?"
"Cause I got no place else to go."

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

That sums up the music taste of lots and lots of people, sadly. Comfortable and unchallenging. Many of we DiS-ers I'd like to think embrace new and interesting things.

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

was kurt nilsen from american idol?
i thought he was the sweden (or somewhere around there, finland perhaps) idol. he won the world idol.
how come half the stuff ive never heard of. 411? who the hell are they, the cassidy feat. r kelly song? i aint heard that.
not surprising really as i dont listen to the radio, and the only way i see music in the chart is if i flick over and accidently see it on the box, sh, channelu! (yuck) or some other pop channel.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

oops, you're correct about kurt. *feels like a fucktard*
hey, it's monday morning. that's my excuse.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

yay a nice little edit as well!!

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Adie, you're becoming somewhat of a legend down here at the Student radio station i work on (www.sinradio.co.uk if anyone's intrigued) - these monday morning chart updates consistently crack us up.
We are definitely not worthy (you probably knew that anyway)

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Yeah, they're a highlight of my Monday too. But then I'm biased because they're written by someone who is a big power-pop head and is therefore in line with my way of thinking...

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Adie is indeed a legend. But then you are too, Mooseman! Hopefully see you soon.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Awwww Shucks.... actually, that makes me think, dya fancy joining the ever-growing SIN village at Glasto?

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Yes. That sounds like a plan. Let me know the details. You free tomorrow night? Rhinos, the Cellar Bar. You know it makes sense!

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Again, i'm working- this always seems to happen when you lot bust a groove live. DAMN!

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

I bought the Barenaked Ladies single, I may buy it again.

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Talking of the charts, everyone go out and buy the new HOTS one - it's quite posibly violated my sacred top five songs ever- and i'm happy that it has

[note - this is not a street-teamer plug, this is genuine love for a tune - anyone accusing me of being a street-teamer will be treated with the same contempt that i exclusively reserve for Linkin Park and Hoobastank fans]

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Cheers for the reminder. I need the HOTS single. And the new Supergrass one.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

You street-teamer. Linkin Park rulez!

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

ha ha fucking ha. How very grown up of you.

HOPE OF THE STATES!

I just bought The Red, The White, The Black, The Blue.

The single itself is worth at least 100 times what I paid for it... of course if it was, no one would pay for it.

Of course if it wasn't, no one would pay for it either!

Re: HOPE OF THE STATES!

It's been a long, long time since i've played a single back to back all day - It's just collosall stuff - even the B-sides are mind-blowing - most bands would be happy to have them as singles - Hold tight for 'Lost Riots', because you won't be disappointed - and then there's Glastonbury - Quite possibly the most important British band for at least a decade.

Re: HOPE OF THE STATES!

Both the times I've seen them live the singer has been hopeless and had a tantrum near the end of the set. Quite possibly the most self important British vocalist for at least a decade... :D

Also the whole band didn't seem to produce the sound live that the reviewers seemed to say they do (and the previous singles too!).

Haven't seen the new, post-tragedy line up live though.

And on another note I got 4 promotional e-mails and a text telling me to buy the single. I was tempted not to bother (but it's a good track and for 1.80...).

Concern for the guttergoat

Having not seen them, I couldn't say. All I have to go on is the report from Reading last year and word of mouth.

I'm not expecting At The Drive-In for the live set anyway.

The Fly gave the album 5/5, and Hot Press (Irish publication) gave the album 8/10 (which in reality is a ten, because they're biased chumps who only reserve higher scores for Irish artists).

Re: Concern for the guttergoat

On CD it -just- about works but at Leeds (or Glastonbury I forget which I saw them at) last year the crowd halved during the set and the singer threw a tantrum when the PA system was turned off during their final song when they tried to play 5 minutes over the set time.

He just sat there in the dark at his keyboard while the roadies started to pack the rest of the stuff away. Eventually he left.

You have to admit they do basically owe their whole sound to F#A#(infinity) by GSYBE! though...

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

taht HOTS single is disgusting
theyve thrown away anything valid and worthwhile about themsleves to play an average song with shitty mick jagger/liam galagher vocals

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

fair doos, not everyones going to like them, but hey, that's your loss.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

"theyve thrown away anything valid and worthwhile about themsleves (sic)"
i did like them
they were a bit derivative, a wee bit boring, but still quite beautiful

now they are pig shit

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

I have a song on a Truck Festival CD from 99 (or possibly 2000, far too lazy to stand up, turn around AND look for it) by a band called ATl.....a song called "Trucksound (an apology)".....anyone know if that's the same ATL??

i dont remember them being anything too special....

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

no, it's most defintely NOT the same ATL

the oxford ATL are still going, i think. Mac (legendary oxford promoter) plays in ATL.
I think theres a thread on www.nightshift.oxfordmusic.net
about it....

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

Didn't Bloc Party's Banquet go in at 51? Or was that last week?

CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

why did dis forget to mention hope of the states is what we should be questioning????

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

because it wasn't in the chart.
because it was released on monday.

Re: CHARTSzzz! Wot, no Barenaked Ladies?

hahahahahahhahahah nice one. word to all DiS posters - do your bleeding research!
