last year at my work experience some 40 year old woman kept chatting about someone called 'Jimbob' and how she went to see him in London but it was cancelled.
was he the singer?
i've now made a list of 7 people who i think will reply in this thread. if they haven't by the afternoon, i'll be VERY disappointed, and will be having 'words'.
Just a stick a pin anywhere in their back catalogue mate, you can't go far wrong. Though 30 Something or Straw Donkey's probably your safest bet if you've not heard a lot of their stuff.
It's all about the chants:
'You look like you bypass the salad bar, and are not fully aware of your paternal origins!'
and of course
'Gordon The Gopher's human sidekick sexually stimulates himself!'
I'd get 30 Something or 1992 The Love Album, you can't go wrong with either of those. If you want to go out on a limb then get the BBC Live album - thats very, very good indeed.
'spose I have to answer the thread question now...
92 is probably my favourite, but you should really get ALL the albums in chronological order. Then get all jim bobs solo stuff, jims super steroworld and then check out fruity's Abdoujaporov and iDou.
If your just getting the one carter album then get 30 something rather than the singles comp.
30 something is really cheap in Fopp when I was browsing the other day.
If you don't want to spend your hard earned on a CD - go and see Jimbob playing on a boat in Battersea in August or come to either of his nearly sold out shows at the water rats at the end of September.
101 Damnations or 30 Something (pretty much every track on both is an indie-pop crossover classic), although Straw Donkey's ace 'cause the singles were almost all brilliant.
Avoid Post Historic Monsters though, it's a bit, shall we say, lacklustre. And the two best tracks (Lean On Me I Won't Fall Over and Lenny & Terence) are on Straw Donkey.
mr fruitbat was playing in his new 'band' I-dou at lark in the park a couple of weeks ago, what a surprise as more of the same, but the same was quite good still..
you have
8 hours.
actually might not bother
I'm finding it really hard to fall asleep at the moment, so perhaps purchasing an album by The Fall might stop this.
do they sell JunkPlanet 7's in virgin?
southend high street also has an HMV.
Though no 'Our Price'
R.I.P
Or MVC
r.i.p x2
yeah
no
The new Junkplanet record is kind of designed to have a soporific effect.
Also: get out of my face, for fucksake.
It's boring.
i don't know
which ones do you have already?
if any.
probably best to start with 'straw donkey: the singles', if you don't have any.
or, '30 something'.
anyway, i'm off to bed now.
i bet i know who else will reply to this thread in my absense.
Just seen a picture of the singer
THAT IS ALL
do you
not approve?
he had great hair, don't you think?
i'm going to a party at chateaux fruitbat on saturday and can pass on any messages if you want.
I like your haircut
and am impressed you managed a number one album.
that'll do.
last year at my work experience some 40 year old woman kept chatting about someone called 'Jimbob' and how she went to see him in London but it was cancelled.
was he the singer?
it should be noted
me and this women fell out when she proclaimed 'know your enemy' as the best Manics album.
yez
jimbob was the singer. he's had a load of solo albums out since and a very funny book about life on the road and all that.
they headlined reading festival as well
ok, not the main stage, but still.
and they also headlined Glastonbury too
...lest we forget...
the plum slot as well - Main Stage headliners, Saturday night, '92(?).
(Weren't they second on the Reading bill the year before too?)
yeh
that's the one.
carter <3
i feel this is teenage obsession i'll never grow out of.
I'll read it
well I would if I could read.
that's a shame. and this is what i do at 1.53am
i've now made a list of 7 people who i think will reply in this thread. if they haven't by the afternoon, i'll be VERY disappointed, and will be having 'words'.
Rock and roll
I'm sure the fact this thread exists warms your bitter hear.
It's not that I'm agoraphobic...

....
there's a small chapter in that book that just slags the fuck out of Swindon.
Something i can appreciate.
Am I one of the obvious?
I bet I was.
I'd get 30 Something or 1992 The Love Album, you can't go wrong with either of those. If you want to go out on a limb then get the BBC Live album - thats very, very good indeed.
I would get
Posthistoric Monsters (NOT)
Post Historic Monsters is awesome
and features the best Carter song ever, The Music That Nobody Likes. Get away with you.
It's about as awesome
as Angelstrike!
it was
the album that got me into carter. TRUTH.
Which is twice as good
as Ringpiece of the Tormentors :)
That
isn't difficult
good
cos Angelstrike is awesome.
"Am I one of the obvious?"
yes. ;-)
Adie.... Am I one of the obvious too?
'spose I have to answer the thread question now...

yeah, as above
30 something or the singles thing.
i'd say more but I feel ill.
URRGGGHHHHH
(even in my hangover the fact that this thread exists warms my bitter heart)
Start with Straw Donkeys just as an intro
Then, in descending order:
1992: The Love Album
30 Something
101 Damnations
Posthistoric Monsters - (really disappointing)
Also 'After the Watershed' must be on Straw Donkeys but wasn't on any albums (I think).
Watershed was left off
The Love Album, as the Rolling Stones were sueing their asses.
I have my brother's copy of
Under The Watershed on 12" - I really should play that when I DJ sometime.

Aye.....
get The Love Album....I frikkin' love it.....
1992
The Love Album
Oooh....
sorry.
Thats alright
What for exactly?
I think....
I may have read that wrong...I thought I was being corrected.
Sorry domco77!
I'd start with
101 Damnations or 30 Something (pretty much every track on both is an indie-pop crossover classic), although Straw Donkey's ace 'cause the singles were almost all brilliant.

I bought 30something
Wish me luck.
you'll love it
but get 101 damnations next
seeing Jimbob tomorrow
...at Blissfields festival.
£10 weekend ticket with camping!
and Mystery Jets headline the next day!
wait
blissfields is more than one day this year?
so if i go to see Mystery Jets, i wont see Jim Bob?
ARSE.
get the carter singles album
hiphip
Jimbobs school album is pretty crap anyone agree? Not as good as Angelstrike
hmm
if i wanted to help you in this predicament i'd suggest '1992: The Love Album'.
But instead i suggest 'Whatever People Say I Am That Is What I'm Not'.
ballbags
Start in order of releases, and appreciate each release.
Which year.....
was Ballbags released?
LOL ^
I couldn't resist
......
i was
LOLling at Thommo. But you can have a LOL too!
Sorry....
I was taking undue credit there.
See, you try to be clever and end up looking foolish.
*runs away to hide in the shed*
amusing enough
mr fruitbat was playing in his new 'band' I-dou at lark in the park a couple of weeks ago, what a surprise as more of the same, but the same was quite good still..
