impossible to say, i've been to about 200 or so gigs, so cannot possibly say which was best ever. However the best gigs that ive seen were Ryan Adams, Bristol 2004
and Sigur Ros Bristol 2002
I saw Dashboard Confessional at Shepherds Bush sometime last year and that was awesome - never seen a band get the crowd to feel like they're so involved in the evening before.
Counting Crows always put on a pretty good show too - don;t just bang out their songs, they put a twist on them and give you something different everytime!!
rage against the machine, 96 at manc apollo. insane, scary and so damn agressive. its gotta be a pretty special performance for people to jump out of the seats on the first floor to get a piece of the pitting
oh apologies Mr Diver I thought this was a music site where people were interested in others opinions!
You seem to have just listed a bunch of gigs you've been to and in your eyes that's end of story, question answered.
Surely it depends on your definition of what makes a great live performance?
When bands like The Strokes play it's almost note for note exactly like the album - does that make it a good live performance? All i reckon is a better live performance comes from bands like Charlottefield who go for it a bit more.
godspeed you black emperor! (before the shift of exclamation mark) - 4th night of a four night residency at the scala in 2000. also, although someone's already mentioned it, les savy fav, the mars volta and the apes at the ulu.
Red Hot Chilis at murrayfield on sunday was fucking awesome.
also, Less Than Jake at the glasgow barrowlands was mad! we had this massive circle pit going even for the first suppost band (the fabulous A.K.A.s) and the crowd went insane for the second support band (the anticlimatic...and rather crap yellowcard) the we created an even bigger circle pit for LTJ and almost had a naked run through the middle of the crowd (dont know how that one was vetoed...oh well)
Some of You have mentioned brillent moments and others fucking horrible moments but the best ever in my humble opinon even though I wasnt there would have been the betles on the Ed Sulivin show, it changed american culture forever,
