Mixed Fountains Of Wayne news here. The bad news is that the release of 'Mexican Wine' (taken from the American pop/rock group's latest LP, 'Welcome Interstate Mangagers') as a single has been shelved by label S-Curve, despite the video getting TV rotation and being playlisted by XFM and 6 Music. Instead, they're releasing it as download-only via mycokemusic.com. Meanwhile, 'Hey Julie' has started receiving airplay on American radio.

The good news is that the band have finally announced plans for a B-sides collection. The group have a wealth of non-LP material that would force any comprehensive collection onto two discs. Co-songwriter, bass player and backing vocalist Adam Schlesinger told Billboard: "We've got about 25 B-sides that we own the rights to. A lot of them should have been A-sides or at least album tracks." There is speculation that the collection could include some new tracks as well as their infamous 'Baby One More Time' cover. It looks as though it will see the light of day before the end of the year, going some way to curbing the illegal trade of bootlegs on eBay.

The band are currently on tour in the USA and will be making an appearence at the V-Festival in the UK later this year.

That sucks somewhat. 'New' tracks are hardly going to be a problem; would those just be the B-sides from the aborted single perhaps?

Re: Fountains Of Wayne: single pulled, B-sides collection plans announced

Mind you, it's a bit annoying, because I just went out of my way to find and buy all the old singles and compile them together with all of the other bits and pieces that I had...

Hehe, you can never have too much too much FOW. A bonus DVD would be nice, but maybe that's asking too much...

i think i've got about 16 b-sides of theirs on a CDR somewhere. there's a few that appeared on soundtrack CDs etc. that i don't have, so this will be good. and, yeah, go on, a bonus DVD with their music videos! please?
