Designer Babies: Baghdad Boogie
Designer Babies are the oddest band I have ever heard.
Ever.
Designer Babies are the sound of every Load band jamming with every Three One G band, ever.
Designer Babies are like Mr Bungle on a lot of bad, bad drugs; a skip-load, nay, a tanker-load of bad, BAD drugs. Like the ones your mum likes so much. No, actually, worse than those. These aren't your over-the-counter variety.
Designer Babies are impossible to categorise using conventional pigeonholes. They've dug/drilled/spooned-out their own, but not even they seem to know exactly what it is. It's punk, yet you can dance to it, but you'll cry your eyes dry doing so. It's like nothing you've ever heard.
Nothing.
Madness on wax. Unadulterated madness on wax. I need a sponge bath and some hot chocolate...

Designer Babies - Baghdad Boogie
I saw this band supporting Melt Banana in Nottingham last year and they were fantastic. The singer was wielding a hammer and a bin liner that he insisted on putting over his head. Great stuff!
They're playing at the Maze in Nottingham on July 8th with Lords and Teen Amateur (to coincide with the release of the above single I believe)... I'm there.-

Their record is one thing, but LiVE!!!!!!!! they are INCREDIBLEx1000. their singer's range is absolutely phenomenal, from Tom waits to jeff buckley + yamatsuka eye of the boredoms. the energy they convey is electric. the guitatrist and the drummer are on the same level of insanity, old old muthafuckin blues with Neurosis style drumming. it's full on! all of it contrasted with the laptop guru's calm and noisy presence. can't wait till they hit London, they will be a great lesson of humility for many many people.
