I thought the audience reaction to her was disgraceful.

They even tried to talk through battles which was rather LOLsome.

Animal Collective were great and I really liked the new stuff and "peace bone" was fantastic live.

I wanted to watch that for hours.

The second song they did, before grass (I don't know what it was called), that was beautiful. Geologist was sampling some drum thing and sliding the pitch all the way down so it made a kind of tumbling noise. It was amazing.

Fireworks is possibly the best song they've ever done. And Purple Bottle sounded incredible.

They're the most life affirming band in the world, and I can't pin down why at all. I love them, so much.

Battles were really ace, but I'd forgotten I'd even seen them after animal collective finished.

though we basically travelled all the way down to see Adem, who had been removed from the bill because someone from AC is doing that horrible warbling violin-raping mad girl who was on first, it turns out. finding this out twelve hours ago would've been nice
(when did it become a good thing to not actually be able to play the instruments you're, uh, playing?)

battles sounded like four session musicians playing different music, half the time. i just don't get it.
props for the beatboxing on the last track, though

AC were alright, though we were mostly fucked off at paying out and travelling to not actually see who we'd wanted to. so we left.

As always. That song where they cranked up the bass slowly but surely until every part of your body was resonating was utterly brilliant.

I am still not sure about Animal Collective. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I hate it.

Battles though... I love John Stanier SOOO MUCH.

but Animal Collective was the best thing I've seen this year. They were brilliant and I would happily watch that every night for the rest of the year.

the panda bear song's pretty good.

Kria was pretty good.. but to be honest you could hear very little of it because of the talk-the-loudest contest going on behind.
I was right at the front in the middle with 'millionaire' and yeah my opinions are shared on the audience front.

Battles surpassed my already stupidly high expectations. They were simply STUPIDLY good. The fact that I was right next to them also made it that little bit more special.. seeing how they effortlessly fit together was just incredible.

As if that wawsn't enough (seeing Battles was like seeing a band easily fit for headlining a venue of that size), Animal Collective were just as good. I shared a moment with Geologist, heh (had to throw that in). When Avey told peopel to come up on stage Geologist made hand gestures to tell people to come up and was looking right at me. I shrugged merrily and he grinned, heh. Quite proud really.

Highlights of the night were Banshee Beat, Purple Bottle, Peace Bone and We Tigers. And finishing with Did You See The Words was wonderful!

All of Battles' new material sounds ace, certainly will be buyng their new album as soon as it's out.

And you can't help but feel sorry for Kria when you were as close to her as I was; you really could see that she wasn't happy. She was trying to say that Manchester was the best, implying that she didn't get the crap she got at the Astoria there. Poor girl...

All in all, despite the annoying crowd through Brekken, it was pretty much 10/10 simply because of how goodf Battles and Animal Collective were.

Oh and something I noticed about last night.. the staff at the Astoria aren't half arseholes. I know they have a curfew to 'beat', but at least have a little more curtesy at the end. And it wasn' just at the end really, they were just generally depressed-looking, always angry and unapproachable. Most venues I've been to the security were much more friendly and, to be honest, efficient.

Top marks though, a magnificent night.
