The Night and Day Cafe is out of the woods. The Manchester music scene can rest assured that one of the city's most treasured venues no longer faces closure, after the local resident who complained to the Council about noise levels withdrew their complaint.

Manchester City Council's head of licensing has informed the Night and Day that the Council never intended to shut down the venue, recognising as it does its importance to the musical community.

However, noise levels will still have to be tempered, meaning that the venue will be investing in improvements. Anybody who has ever sweated through a gig at the Night and Day will be pleased to discover that one of these improvements will be the installation of an air conditioning system.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Health Department continue to investigate the Night and Day's impact upon the area. It has come to light that when the flats adjoining the cafe were built, an acoustic report indicated that the walls would have to be soundproofed against the live music next door. This was not done and now the cafe will have to shoulder expeneses which they would not have faced had the greedy property developers done what they should have done in the first place.

Further details on the ongoing saga can be found at www.nightnday.org.

Night and Day Saved

Thats a shame about the developers pullin a fast one but the important thing is that the venue is staying and will no doubt go on to provide a springboard for more bands in the future. Good news! X
