Plucked from obscurity after über-producer Ross Robinson heard their demo, Vex Red soon caused a stir alongside the new wave of heavy-tinged British rock bands that emerged at the beginning of the century. Unlike their contemporaries who were largely restricted to the subgenres of nu-metal or hardcore punk, Vex Red added an electronic element to their brand of gothic-tinged glam metal. Their Robinson-helmed debut Start With A Strong And Persistent Desire appeared in 2002 to a warm critical and commercial response. In February 2003 the group's future was thrown into doubt when frontman Terry Abbott left to work on other projects. Tom Edwards
