Politically complicated, feminist perspectives inform Le Tigre's lyrical approach to their subject matter, even as the songs occasionally veer into introspection or absurdity. LE TIGRE's self-titled 2000 debut album was out on Mr. Lady (USA) and Wiija (Europe) and has been hailed as an underground classic all round the world: "the best thing to come out of America this year" STEVE LAMACQ/BBC-Radio1; "Ace frankly, and now with added tunes. 4.5/5" Melody Maker; "LE TIGRE: they're grrreat" NME.
And now a word from CHICKS ON SPEED’s Alex: "How c.o.s. met le tigre...... After being a Bikini Kill and riot grrl fan myself and having loved the last lt record, we met le tigre last year when they were on tour in Europe to promote their record. I was quite nervous I remember...... we played one show together in Basel, and it was unforgetable, we all ended up on stage freaking out in our own individual ways! And then back in the hotel room...we exchanged gossip and business plans. I woke up the next morning and opened the door to my room and found the art at my feet.... no joke, they had taken all the paintings off the wall and laid them on the floor in front of our rooms! It was an honour! Before we had said goodnight, we found out that lt would also be in London in a few days and as we were scheduled to support Suicide for 2 nights we thought..why don’t we do a song together? But the first show was cancelled, and we never met. We exchanged a few emails over the coming months with adventure, but never met until- we finally met up again at the Knitting Factory, part of the c.o.s. "the chix machine" USA tour in April this year. I asked Johanna when the new record would be coming out and where it will be released.....she said they were looking for a new label in Europe, so we all immediately said "what about c.o.s. recs????? They said "yeah!" and 3 months later, after many weeks of negotiating...as so many labels were keen to sign them in Europe after the success of the last record, they signed to c.o.s.records! We celebrated. Let’s go "Feminist Sweepstakes"!
