Interlaken play a mixture of rock and roll, alterna-pop and hardcore welded together with love and feedback. According to Robots and Electronic Brains webzine, we engage in '
Joy Division trundling and
Mogwai/
Sonic Youth wriggling' 'with obvious glee'.
REPEAT fanzine described us as 'sonic noise terrorists with a real mission', but maybe Didier Becu of Belgian 'zine The Original Sin put it best when he wrote charmingly that 'Interlaken have an own sound'.
The origins of the band are to be found in the partnership of noiseniks Simon Baker and Alan Ingram in various experiments in Cambridge in late 1998. Colin Dewar, a veteran of northerly musical projects and super 8 dabblings, joined in 1999, and in the summer of that year they released a single (jean cell/anonymous) to warm acclaim, but relative obscurity. Tom Barden, co-leader of the celebrated but now-departed Return of Id, joined at the end of 2000. They have lately been recording, rehearsing and playing gigs.
