Formed in late 1996, York England, The Static waves met at sixth form college and through a mutual love of indie rock perennials The Fall, Pavement and Sonic Youth, we decided to play music together. Early shows were chaotic, incompetent affairs performed to largely uninterested York locals. Due to this, we decided to branch out and started playing gigs in Leeds where were were more warmly received.

Years passed and sporadic gigs were played around the country as the band developed their sound into a more marshalled, noise pop style, realising at some point that getting blind drunk before every gig was not good when it came to impressing crowds. Various 7" single releases were played by Steve Lamacq and John Peel and an acoustic session was recorded for the Cable Radio Milton Keynes show The Garden of Earthly Delights. The Static Waves are now experimenting with a more folk based sound incorporating keyboards, mandolin and brass but they still like to rock out when playing live.
