Grand Central CEO Mark Rae discovered Aim, AKA eclectically-influenced trip hop producer Andy Turner, while he was working behind the counter at Fat City records. Turner began his career in music as a rap DJ with a lucrative side-project in peddling computer game soundtracks, and would often travel to the shop in search of rare records for his sets.
Although Aim's first full-length Cold Water Music would not appear until 1999, the outfit had released a series of EP's since 1995, including 'Loop Dreams' and 'Soul Dive, as well as making several appearances on Grand Central compilations. Like its predecessor, Hinterland (2002) contained contributions from a wide range of artists, notably those from labelmate Kate Rogers and veteran hip hop producer and influence, Diamond D.
Turner has contributed remixes to high profile acts including Ian Brown, Saint Etienne and The Charlatans.
