Seven Miles High

Seven Miles High both write and distribute their music over the Internet.

Originally formed in 1995 in Rio de Janeiro, the band now relies on the Internet, since its members live as far apart as Brazil, Sweden, and Croydon in England.

Non of Seven Miles High’s members were strangers to the music industry before joining the band, but the experience of building up a virtual community of fans through their website has certainly been a unique one, and has resulted in the inventively multi-dimensional ‘Godforsaken’ EP.

What is the most unique thing about your band?

The fact that we make music sharing audio and midi files via cyberspace.

What has been your biggest inspiration (musical or otherwise)?

Acoustic songs from many different artists, mainly Led Zeppelin and Nick Drake.

What has been the greatest moment in your musical career so far?

We all had great moments taking part in other musical projects, but as Seven Miles High it was when we were voted best band in a British Music competition.

What other bands do you sound like?

Everybody seems to mention 10,000 Maniacs, perhaps because of the female vocals.

What’s your attitude towards mainstream music at the moment?

There is too much attention to image and music is most of the time forgotten.

How does the band write its songs?

Squirrel writes the music and Eliot the lyrics. The rest of the members contribute their own bits sharing audio files through cyberspace.

Where do you see the band in a year’s time?

Hopefully launching our debut album.

How would you describe your band’s sound?

Melodic-kinda-folkie-indie with a mulit-layered guitar (and all-sorts) wall of sound.

Anything else you want to tell us?

We are from Brazil but don’t make traditional Brazilian music, even though we use Brazilian instruments.
