When they're not concentrating on their other band Convoy, San Diego boys Louis XIV bring their self-indulgent side out to play; debut self-titled album is centred around the narrative of a boy who genuinely believes he is the famed eighteenth century French king of the band's moniker. Obvious influences are the Stones and the Stooges but in place their playful side emerges, pulling up reminders of T Rex; elsewhere, 'The White Stripes minus the pretension' comes to mind. They've impressed crowds at SXSW, played with The Killers, Violent Femmes and The Datsuns, and will play US dates in February 2005 with Hot Hot Heat.
