Brett Anderson was born in 1967; he formed Suede with Mat Osman and Justine Frischmann - who went on to form Elastica - in the late 1980s. At the time, Anderson and Frischmann were dating. The trio were soon joined by guitarist Bernard Butler, and Simon Gilbert joined on drums. The band released their debut album, Suede, in 1993; by this point, Frischmann had left the band. The album went to number one in the UK albums chart.

America took time to warm to the band, despite their success in their homeland; also, the band were forced to change their name to The London Suede, as a singer with the same name was already active in the US. Butler left after 1994's critically acclaimed Dog Man Star album, and after 1996's Coming Up album the band took time off to cope with personal issues.

Suede released two further albums: 1999's Head Music and 2002's A New Morning. The band split in 2003, and Anderson formed The Tears with Butler in 2004. They released one album, 2004's Here Come The Tears.

Anderson will release his debut solo album through Drowned in Sound Recordings in March 2007. Suede's DiS profile can be found here, and The Tears' here.
